Human remains discovered in Selosesha, Free State

FREE STATE- Police have discovered human remains in Zone 5, Selosesha on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. The remains are suspected to be those of 19-year-old Puleng Motlodi, who went missing in July 2023. HUMAN REMAINS DISCOVERED IN SELOSESHA A multi-disciplinary team consisting of K9 Search and Rescue members, Local Criminal Record Centre experts and investigation officers located the dead body of Motlodi inside a pit toilet. Through an intensive search, police traced a 36-year-old suspect and interrogated him. During the interrogation, the police discovered the suspect was with three other male accomplices who met Motlodi in Zone 3. The suspect then led the police to a house in Zone 5, Selosesha, where they dismantled the pit toilet pointed out to them by the suspect. 'A search inside the sewage led to the discovery of a Black windbreaker, a jersey and female underwear. The police also discovered limb bones [legs and arms] and a human skull and collected the remains for further examination,' read the police statement. According to police, one of the suspects is a ringleader currently incarcerated, who knew Motlodi and ordered hit men to kidnap and take her to Zone 5. 'It is alleged that the ringleader later became aggressive and strangled the life out of the victim. He then, with the help of the suspect, dumped the lifeless body of the victim in a pit toilet,' the police said. The case has been changed from a missing person's case to a kidnapping and murder case. The suspect and the 40-year-old ringleader will be charged, while the arrest of the two other accomplices is imminent. A 26-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in Waterloo, KZN, on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. According to Reaction Unit South Africa, team members found a bullet-riddled white VW Polo against a tree. 'The driver was slumped in his seat. He was shot multiple times and demised before the arrival of First Responders and Paramedics,' said RUSA. The suspects allegedly fled in an Isuzu bakkie. The deceased's death is allegedly linked to the taxi industry violence.
