Body recovered from Scottish loch after major search
Police Scotland first received a report of a missing man who was last seen swimming in Loch Ard in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park at around 9pm on Saturday. The force's dive and marine unit carried out extensive searches along with the Mountain Rescue Team and air support unit. On Sunday afternoon, the body of a 42-year-old man was recovered from the water. The B829 at Aberfoyle was closed but has since reopened. Police confirmed a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course. A Police Scotland statement reads: "The body of a 42-year-old man has been recovered following searches to trace a man who was last seen swimming in the water at Loch Ard. "Police received a report around 9pm on Saturday, 10 May, 2025, and extensive searches were carried out by the dive and marine unit along with the Mountain Rescue Team and air support unit. "Early afternoon on Sunday, 11 May, the man's body was recovered. His next of kin have been made aware. "There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report to the Procurator Fiscal will be sent in due course."

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene near Stirling at around 9pm. Officers were spotted at the scene last night while a search and rescue helicopter scoured the area. This morning, Police Scotland's specialist dive team combed the loch as the search continued. The Mountain Rescue Team and air support unit joined the search alongside staff at a nearby adventure centre. But officers have now confirmed that the body of the 42-year-old man has been recovered from the loch. The body was pulled from the water earlier this afternoon. Officers said that the man's next of kin has been made aware. They added that they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. The force released a statement at 4pm, which read: "The body of a 42-year-old man has been recovered following searches to trace a man who was last seen swimming in the water at Loch Ard. It comes just days after a 45-year-old man died after being plucked from a reservoir near Edinburgh. He was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after emergency services were called to Glencourse Reservoir in Midlothian but died a short time later. Two other individuals, a 53-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, were also hospitalised after attempting to rescue him from the water.

A walker suffered serious injuries after falling from a cliff on to jagged 43-year-old man was visiting Roseberry Topping, near Middlesbrough, on Sunday when he slipped and fell 30m (98ft) from the summit The man at 18:40 Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) attended and transferred him to an air ambulance, which flew him to James Cook University Insp Tom Sewel, of Cleveland Police, urged people to be "mindful" when walking to the top of the hill. "The edge at the top of the cliff has an extremely steep drop leading to jagged rocks beneath," he said."Try to enjoy the views without stepping too close to the edge to ensure everyone stays safe."The fall is not being treated as suspicious. Two North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) crews and a team from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) were also involved in the rescue. He was carried down the hill to an air ambulance and taken to hospital."Due to the rural location, our Cumbria team was requested to attend in their aircraft and they arrived on scene at 20:00," CMRT said.
