National School Choice Week emphasizes family choice in education
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — National School Choice Week is from Sunday, Jan. 26, through Wednesday, Feb. 1. It's a week about celebrating the power of choice and raising awarenss of the options available to families.
Colorado is an open-enrollment state, meaning families can apply to schools outside of their assigned district if space is available.
Nate Mylin, Director of Education and Principal at Mountain Song Community School joined FOX21 Morning News on Monday, Jan. 27, to talk about how the process works.
'This is a great time for parents, because School Choice Week is a time that we focus on encouraging parents to look at all different educational options in the city,' said Mylin. He said charter schools are growing in popularity across Colorado and the country. 'It's an exciting time to be in Colorado Springs for charter schools and you'll be seeing more pop up in the future.'
