Marvel actor claims he's been forced out of Hollywood after suing Disney

US actor Terrence Howard has claimed he has been black-listed from Hollywood after he sued Disney. Howard, best known for his roles in projects such as Iron Man, Empire and the Oscar-winning movie Crash, sued 20th Century Fox, owned by Disney, in 2021, over allegations of unpaid royalties related to his starring role in the hit series Empire. Speaking on Bill Maher's Club Random podcast, Howard said: 'My whole goal now is to disappear from that side of it.' Asked by Maher if that meant he intends to quit acting, Howard responded: 'I've got to, dude. I'm on the Chitlin' Circuit now, after I sued Fox.' When pushed to explain his remark, he continued: 'No studio movies. No big television stuff. Everything is on the outskirts. Why? Because you don't f*** with the Mouse. I f***ed with the Mouse. I sued the Mouse, I sued Fox, and I'm suing CAA right now. But it's about my money. If someone takes $300 million from you, you're like: 'Dude!' You've got to go for it.' Disney purchased Fox in 2019 in a huge deal that saw the Hollywood giants merge. At its height, Empire, that also stars Taraji P. Henson, hauled in around $USD100 million in advertising for 20th Century Fox. Howard later went on to sue his talent agency, CAA, for an alleged conflict of interest over his salary on the same show. He alleged that they pressured him to accept a below-market salary during his six-season stint on the series, which CAA has denied. 'I trusted CAA to look after me, and they looked after themselves,' said Howard. During the same interview with Maher, Howard went on to share that he turned down the chance to play Marvin Gaye in the star's biopic because he 'refused to kiss another male actor'. Howard said he passed on the project after he found out about Gaye's sexuality from another legendary musician, Quincy Jones. 'I was over at Quincy Jones' house and I'm asking Quincy, 'I'm hearing rumours that Marvin was gay' and I'm like, 'Was he gay?'' Howard explained. 'And Quincy's like, 'Yes.'' 'They would've wanted to do that, and I wouldn't have been able to do that,' he said of playing a gay man. 'I would cut my lips off. If I kissed some man, I would cut my lips off,' he added, before insisting that his refusal to play the role doesn't speak to his view of the LGBTQ+ community. 'It does not make me homophobic to not want to kiss a man,' he claimed.

K-idol Lee Seung-gi cuts ties with in-laws over alleged stock manipulation

Some of Lee Seung-gi's fans had objected to his marriage to Lee Da-in, whose family was allegedly involved in a financial scandal. Photo: Handout South Korean heartthrob Lee Seung-gi has severed ties with his in-laws after his father-in-law is suspected of being involved in manipulating stock prices again. The 38-year-old singer-actor tied the knot with South Korean actress Lee Da-in, 32, in April 2023. They welcomed their first child, a girl, in February 2024. Some of Lee Seung-gi's fans had objected to the marriage, fearing that his clean-cut image would be affected, as Lee Da-in's family was allegedly involved in a financial scandal. Her mother is actress Kyeon Mi-ri and her stepfather is businessman Lee Hong-heon. Kyeon, 60, is best known for her role as the antagonist Lady Choi in the hit period drama Jewel In The Palace (2003 to 2004). According to South Korean media, Lee Hong-heon was charged in 2016 with manipulating the stock prices of a listed company between 2014 and 2016. He was sentenced to four years' jail and fined 2.5 billion won in 2018. South Korean entertainment news site Soompi said Kyeon was a major shareholder of the company. Lee Hong-heon was acquitted by an appellate court in 2019, but the South Korean Supreme Court overturned the ruling in June 2024 and sent the case back for retrial. He was arrested recently for his alleged involvement in stock price manipulation related to a renewable energy company, South Korean online news outlet Chosun Biz reported on April 29. 'My father-in-law was fined in a trial on allegations of illegal activities that had been continuously raised against him, but recently, he has been indicted by the authorities again over similar illegal acts,' Lee Seung-gi said in a press statement released through his agency Big Planet Made on April 29. 'As someone who has waited for the outcome based on trust between family members, I am devastated about my father-in-law's misconduct.' Referring to past statements he had made in defence of his father-in-law, he said: 'I deeply regret the careless remarks I made last year without sufficiently reviewing the matter related to my father-in-law. 'I believe that appropriate punishment must be given for illegal acts, and I sincerely apologise to the victims who suffered due to my hasty judgment.' The actor, who has starred in K-dramas such as Mouse (2021) and The Law Cafe (2022), added: 'The trust between the family members has been damaged irreparably due to this incident. 'After much deliberation, my wife and I have decided to cut ties with my in-laws. I once again bow and apologise for causing concern and disappointment due to my personal matters.' – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

Lee Seung Gi ends ties with wife Lee Da In's father after his arrest in stock manipulation controversy: ‘Devastated'

Korean singer and actor Lee Seung Gi has issued an apology to the victims affected by his father-in-law's involvement in the stock manipulation case. Lee Seung Gi is married to actor Lee Da In. In a press note, he officially ended his ties with Lee Da In's Lee Hong Heon who was arrested on Tuesday, as reported by Soompi. The Korean outlet quoted the Mouse actor saying, 'Hello, this is Lee Seung Gi. It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. Although my father-in-law was previously sentenced to a fine in the retrial regarding the ongoing allegations of illegal activities, he has recently been indicted again by investigative authorities for similar unlawful acts. As someone who had been waiting for the outcome based on trust within the family, I am devastated and at a loss for words over my father-in-law's wrongful actions.' 'I deeply regret having spoken carelessly last year without thoroughly reviewing the matters related to my father-in-law. I firmly believe that any illegal acts must be met with appropriate punishment, and I sincerely apologize to the victims who may have suffered due to my hasty judgment. I am also truly sorry to everyone who trusted and supported me.' Not just Lee Seung Gi, Lee Da In who is the daughter of veteran actress Kyun Mi Ri, also has distanced herself from her father. The statement also mentioned, 'This incident has irreparably damaged the trust within our family, and after much deliberation, my wife and I have decided to sever ties with her family. From now on, I will strive to uphold the right values and live with a sense of responsibility for a healthier society. Once again, I bow my head in apology for causing concern and disappointment over this personal matter.' Lee Seung Gi and Lee Da In dated for some time and later walked down the aisle in April 2023 as husband and wife. They were blessed with a baby girl last year. Lee Seung Gi's father-in-law, Lee Hong Heon, also Lee Da In's father, was allegedly making tens of billions of Won illegally by raising the stock price of a company called COREBEAT in 2016. Reportedly, he made false public disclosures and more in the process. In 2018, Hong Heon was initially sentenced to four years in prison and fined 2.5 billion won (around $1.73 million), but he was cleared on appeal the next year. However, last year in June, the Supreme Court disagreed with that decision, found him guilty, and ordered a new trial. Reportedly, Lee Da In's mother and Lee Seung Gi's mother-in-law were a major shareholder in the same company. On April 29, he was arrested again for allegedly manipulating the stock price of a renewable energy company called Quantapia. First Published: 29 Apr 2025, 07:02 PM IST
