A rare photograph from the sets of the 1972 cult classic 'Bawarchi', featuring lead actors Rajesh Khanna and Jaya Bachchan , has surfaced online, instantly transporting fans back to a seemingly simpler era of filmmaking. The film, directed by the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee , remains a beloved gem in Hindi cinema for its heartwarming narrative and understated charm. A Glimpse into the Bawarchi Family The photo was recently by veteran actor Asrani, now 84, who also played a pivotal role in the film. The candid still captures the main cast in character, embodying the spirit of the 'Bawarchi family'. Rajesh Khanna is seen seated cross-legged on the floor, radiating a characteristic smile. Beside him, Jaya Bachchan (then Jaya Bhaduri) looks elegant in a saree, her signature braid and bindi completing her look. Asrani himself sits next to her. During our discussion on 'Bawarchi', Abir and Sameer were of the opinion that I should be writing and directing the remake." She continued, 'They were convinced that I would be able to tell the story in a manner which would make them proud. We were in sync with our vision and I wholeheartedly agreed to come on board as the writer-director." As per the last available update, Anushree Mehta had completed the script for the 'Bawarchi' adaptation and had aimed to commence filming in 2024. Conversations regarding the film's casting, with potential A-listers in consideration, were also reportedly underway. However, no further updates on the film's progress have been released since.
