Mysuru railway division launches fortnight-long green drive to tackle plastic pollution
The Mysuru Railway Division of South Western Railway launched a fortnight-long green drive on Thursday with focus on reducing the menace of plastic pollution. The two-week long drive will culminate on June 5, marking World Environment Day, the theme for which is 'Combating Plastic Pollution', which is also the focus of the green drive. The railway authorities said the initiative aims to spread awareness and encourage active participation from railway staff, passengers, and the general public in reducing plastic use and embracing sustainable practices. Activities are being conducted across major stations including Mysuru, Davangere, Shivamogga Town, and Arsikere, according to the authorities who said that the key highlights include awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives, workshops, installation of plastic bottle crushing machines, street plays (Nukkad Nataks), school outreach programmes, and promotion of eco-friendly alternatives. The celebrations will conclude at Vontikoppal Railway Colony, Mysuru, with a valedictory ceremony, which will be attended by Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal. The event will feature the distribution of plants to railway families and achievements from the drive will be showcased, and outstanding contributions by individuals and stations will be honoured, the authorities said.

RPF in Mysuru introduces body cameras to boost railway security
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Mysuru Railway Division has introduced Body-Worn Cameras (BWCs) as a step towards modernising railway security The railway authorities said the introduction of these devices represents a significant move towards technology-driven policing, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and evidence-based enforcement. The cameras are expected to play a crucial role during on-board escort duties, passenger interactions, and preventive field operations. In all, 20 BWCs were formally inducted into the RPF of Mysuru Division at a function held recently, and Mudit Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru; Sam Prashanth J.R., Senior Divisional Security Commissioner; and E.K. Anuj Kumar, Assistant Security Commissioner, were among those present. Mr. Mittal issued the BWCs to RPF personnel, signifying the division's commitment to empowering the force with cutting-edge technology, said the authorities. To ensure proper usage, a technical demonstration was conducted by the RPF personnel who explained the operational features, technical specifications, and real-time applications of the equipment. The railway authorities said the demonstration emphasized the BWCs' utility in improving documentation, deterring misconduct, and strengthening public trust in RPF operations. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the on-going efforts to modernize the RPF and further reinforce the safety and security of railway passengers, the railway authorities added.

Children receive prizes for Heritage Day poster-making and painting contest
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the poster-making and drawing/painting competitions, organised as part of the World Heritage Day celebrations at the Mysuru Rail Museum here on Monday. The museum commemorated World Heritage Day 2025 on the theme, 'Disaster and Conflict-Resilient Heritage – Actions in relation to Safeguarding Heritage', on April 18. The event brought together young artists to showcase their creativity while emphasising the importance of preserving cultural legacy amidst global challenges. The chief guest on the occasion, Mudit Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager of the Mysuru division, distributed prizes to the competition winners. In his address, Mr. Mittal lauded the participants for their exceptional artistic talent and urged them to nurture their passion for art as they pursue higher aspirations. 'Your creativity is not just a skill but a powerful tool to inspire change. Keep this passion alive. It will guide you toward greater achievements in life,' he said. Railway officials, including senior divisional personnel officer Vishnu Gowda and senior divisional mechanical engineer Kumar Digvijay, also spoke on the occasion. The competition was held across three age groups. The winners of the group A (6-9 years) are Mohammed Ghouse Mohiuddin, Kounain Amber, Ridhaan Sanil, and Ipsita Vigeet (1st, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd respectively); group B (10-13 years) winners are Vedashree Wakinbe, Kanak Vinayak, and Dhruvan M.P. (1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively); and group C (14-17 years) Pragathi K.H., Ksithi S., and Romit Arya (1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively), a press release stated.
