No dashcam found in bus involved in fatal crash, say police
Muhaamad Hafis Nawawi IPOH: A preliminary investigation by police has revealed that the bus carrying Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students involved in the fatal crash on the East-West Highway near Gerik early today was not equipped with a dashboard camera. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said checks on the vehicle confirmed the absence of a dashcam. "We will refer the case to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) and the Road Transport Department (RTD). "Investigations are ongoing, and whether or not the bus had prior summonses is still being looked into," he said during a press conference today. Noor Hisham added that checks showed the tour bus was registered in Kedah. Earlier this morning, 15 people were killed when the bus they were in collided with a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) along Jalan Jeli-Grik near Tasik Banding, Perak.

Malaysian man dies while diving in Aceh
Muhaamad Hafis Nawawi KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian man reportedly died while diving in the waters off Iboih, Sabang City, Aceh, Indonesia, yesterday. The incident is believed to have occurred at around 9.30am local time, when the 33-year-old man was diving with two other Malaysian friends and accompanied by a diving instructor at the location. Indonesia's Berita Rakyat Aceh news portal reported that police responded promptly to the scene after receiving the report. The report said that after 20 minutes of diving at a depth of 30 metres, the group was swept away by an underwater current. The victim reportedly attempted to ascend following the instructor's orders but lost consciousness upon reaching the surface. Rescue efforts were immediately carried out, and the victim was rushed by speedboat to Iboih Beach. His friends and the instructor administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before taking him by car to a nearby clinic. Upon arriving at the clinic at around 10.30am local time, medical personnel provided immediate treatment, but the victim was pronounced dead. His body was later taken to Sabang City Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The remains are being handled by the victim's friends with assistance from local authorities and are expected to be repatriated to Malaysia once the post-mortem is completed.
