Umno remembers attempted ban, rejects Dr M's invitation, says Dr Akmal

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh says Umno will not forget the historical attempt to ban the party by an individual who now invites Umno members to join a new movement, Sinar Harian reports. The Malay language daily reported that the Umno Youth chief was referring to the invitation from former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who urged Umno members to join the Malay Secretariat, a new political coalition purportedly established to champion the restoration of Malay political power. "Thank you, Tun (Dr M), we appreciate the invitation. But we still remember what happened. The same person also wanted to ban Umno when they were in power," he said Thursday (June 5). Dr Muhamad Akmal also told Sinar Harian that if the agenda of uniting the Malays is indeed a priority, it should be born out of sincerity for the sake of religion and race, not motivated by position or status. "If there is a genuine desire to unite the race, let it come from a sincere heart out of love for religion and race, not merely to secure positions for oneself," he said. Dr Mahathir had previously said that he was not inviting Umno as a party but welcomed any Umno members willing to join the Malay Secretariat. According to Dr Mahathir, the Secretariat aims to restore the political dominance of Malays in the government, which he described as increasingly weak.

Now Anwar understands why BN did it, Umno Youth chief says of past political appointments

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has defended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's remarks that political appointments by a government do not constitute abuse of power. In a Facebook post, Muhamad Akmal also thanked the Tambun MP for what he described as finally understanding the Barisan Nasional (BN) government's previous actions. 'Alhamdulillah. Thank you, Prime Minister, for finally understanding what the BN government did in the past,' he wrote, as reported by Utusan Malaysia. Anwar, during his winding-up speech at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress in Johor Bahru yesterday, said governments should be allowed to appoint qualified individuals, and such appointments were not a form of power abuse. 'We should give positions to those who are qualified, as a reward for their decades of service and contribution to the party's struggle,' he said. He also shared that many individuals had sacrificed their careers and savings to support the party without expecting anything in return. 'I remember a man named Pak Kudus in Tanjung Karang. He was one of the earliest to support me after I was sacked, living only on a pension of RM1,800 a month,' Anwar said. 'There were academic lecturers and medical specialists who lost their jobs and spent hundreds of thousands of ringgit, yet never asked for anything in return and lived the rest of their lives modestly,' he added.

Two strict conditions set for Paya Mengkuang pig farmers to resume operations

MELAKA: Operators of pig farms in Paya Mengkuang, Kuala Sungai Baru, Kuala Sungai Baru, must comply with two strict conditions if they wish to resume operations. State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the main condition was that pig farming activities be conducted under a closed-house system instead of the conventional method used previously. He said another condition was that any pigs brought in from outside Melaka must first obtain approval from the State Veterinary Services Department to ensure the animals were free from disease. 'If the farmers can comply with the conditions set, the state government has no objection to allowing their farms to resume operations. 'We have held a meeting with pig farmers in the area and they are aware of the conditions that have been set,' he told a press conference outside the Melaka State Legislative Assembly today. Elaborating, Dr Muhamad Akmal said he had not received any applications from existing farmers for the construction of farms with a closed-house system, which was required to resume operations. In January 2022, the media reported that the Melaka government had agreed to gazette 35 pig farms in Paya Mengkuang as African Swine Fever (ASF) disease outbreak and control areas. The gazetting was to control the spread of ASF but no specific timeframe had been set.
