Bruneian man jailed for receiving stolen vehicle
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A local man has been jailed for 12 months after he was found guilty of dishonestly receiving a stolen Toyota Kijang, which he later attempted to sell via Facebook.
Muhammad Rafy Rizqullah Abdullah, 23, had claimed trial in September 2024 but was convicted following proceedings.
Magistrate Abdul 'Azim Othman heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurulatikah Husaini that the vehicle had originally been borrowed from its owner on Sept 12, 2024 and was reported missing the following morning.
Investigations led to the defendant, who had acquired the car on Sept 15, 2024 at a residence in Kampong Salambigar, despite being provided no documentation or proof of ownership.
He proceeded to advertise the vehicle for sale online, eventually selling it for BND450 to an individual who later handed the vehicle over to police.
The court found that the defendant failed to make reasonable inquiries into the car's provenance and had thereby dishonestly retained stolen property.
The court was told that the defendant had no previous convictions. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
