Former foreign ministry sec-gen appointed as Malaysia's ambassador to US
KUALA LUMPUR: Former foreign ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob has been appointed Malaysia's new ambassador to the United States. His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, presented the letter of appointment to Muhammad Shahrul in a ceremony at Istana Negara today. Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin and Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin were present. Muhammad Shahrul, who began his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Foreign Ministry in 1988, has over 35 years of public service experience. He served as the ministry's secretary-general from Jan 6, 2019, to May 31, 2022. His previous overseas appointments include ambassadorial roles in Qatar and Austria, as well as Malaysia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. Wisma Putra said he also served in diplomatic missions in Vienna, Washington D.C., and Beijing. The Pahang-born diplomat holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Ecology from Universiti Malaya and completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in 2009. He also held senior positions at the ministry, including deputy secretary-general (Bilateral Affairs), director-general of the Asean-Malaysia National Secretariat during Malaysia's Asean Chairmanship in 2015, and undersecretary of the Multilateral Political Division.

King appoints Muhammad Shahrul Ikram as Malaysia's new ambassador to the US
PETALING JAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, presented the Letter of Credence to Tan Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob as the new ambassador of Malaysia to the United States on Tuesday (June 3). The Penang-born Muhammad Shahrul Ikram received the Letter of Credence at a ceremony held at Istana Negara on Tuesday. Also present were Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin and Wisma Putra secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin. MORE TO COME
