Lucknow students excel in NEET with top national ranks
1 2 3 Lucknow: Students from the state capital brought pride to the city with their performances in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET UG) 2025. Two students, Muktesh Tanmay and Anant Chaurasia, secured All India Ranks (AIR) 36 and 44 respectively, emerging among the top performers out of more than 23 lakh candidates across the country. Other city students who made it to the top 1,000 ranks include Advita (AIR 325), Yashmit Garg (AIR 805), Sanishka Srivart (AIR 815) and Shekhar Mishra (AIR 882), further cementing Lucknow's reputation as a hub of academic excellence. NEET UG is conducted annually for admission to undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS, BDS and Ayush programmes (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS). It is also valid for students planning to pursue medical education abroad. Muktesh Tanmay, who scored 661 marks to achieve AIR 36, is the son of Sanjay Kumar, principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya. He now has his sights set on AIIMS Delhi. Describing his preparation strategy, Muktesh said, "Targeted planning and error analysis were game changers. Solving previous years' papers and analysing mistakes helped me avoid silly errors. Anant Chaurasia, who secured AIR 44 with a score of 656, credited his sister, a doctor, for inspiring his career path. "Her journey gave me the motivation I needed to pursue medicine. NCERT books, class notes and consistent revision were the foundation. I made it a point to solve previous years' papers regularly," he said, adding that maintaining a daily routine without pressure helped him stay on track. "I treated it like a habit. Watching cricket during breaks helped me relax and reset," he said. Ayush Gautam secured the 53rd rank in NEET. His father, Vijay Prakash, is retired, and his mother, Chandrawali, is a homemaker. Ayush, a resident of Kanpur, shared that he stayed in Shaktinagar, Lucknow, for two years to prepare for medical entrance exams. After intense hard work, he achieved success. He believes that staying away from social media is crucial for success. "The internet has a vast amount of study material. Focus only on course-related content. Practice regularly. Write things down to remember better," he said. Ayush added that his elder brother, Vishal Gautam, is pursuing an MTech from IIT Madras, while his elder sister, Anjali Gautam, is doing her post-graduation from GSVM Medical College, Kanpur. But they never forced me into it — it was my decision. Their guidance during the tough phases helped me stay strong." "I never overburdened myself. I kept away from social media completely, except for a little YouTube — mostly cricket highlights or dog videos," said Advita. Yashmit Garg, a resident of Jankipuram, AIR 805, said, "My whole family — parents, sister, even my grandfather — are doctors, so naturally people expected me to follow the same path. But I never felt that pressure. I wanted to do it for myself," said Yashmit. "Balancing study with physical activity helped me a lot. I played cricket, worked out regularly — it kept my energy up and stress down. I'm hoping to join KGMC and carry forward the family legacy. Max qualifiers from UP, but only 4 in top 100
Lucknow: The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the NEET-UG 2025 results on Saturday. Over 12.36 lakh candidates qualified for the NEET-UG 2025 medical entrance exam. Of these, the highest number of qualifying candidates came from Uttar Pradesh. However only four candidates from the state made it to the top 100. A total of 3.41 lakh candidates registered for the exam from UP, and of these, 3.33 lakh candidates took the entrance. The result summary issued by NTA revealed that 1.7 lakh candidates secured the qualifying number of qualifiers in UP is about 5,000 more than last year when 1.65 lakh successful candidates were reported. In 2024, 3.44 lakh candidates registered, while 3.34 lakh took the paper. In 2025, UP was followed by Maharashtra, where 1.25 lakh candidates qualified from 2.42 lakh who took the test. However, 2.48 lakh candidates registered for the test, which means that over 6,000 dropped out. Rajasthan secured the third seat in terms of the number of qualified candidates, with 1.19 lakh candidates. Here, 1.8 lakh candidates registered for the exam, of whom 1.76 lakh candidates took the papers. Only four candidates from UP made it to the top 100 scorers. The list included Muktesh Tanmay at the 36th position. He recorded a percentile score of 99.9983. A native of Lucknow, Muktesh cleared the exam in his first attempt taken along with class 12. He is now looking forward to admission to AIIMS Delhi. Anant Chaurasia secured the 44th position with a 99.9978 percentile score. Ayush Gautam bagged the 53rd position with a percentile of 99.9974. He was also the topper of the SC category list. Likewise, Tanmay Jagga bagged the 74th position with a percentile of 99.9964. No candidate from the state made it to the top 20 gender lists.
