Water leak closes Mukwonago Area School District
A water leak caused damage to Mukwonago Area School District network servers, leading officials to close schools for at least one day.
A science lab sink at Mukwonago High School overflowed around 1:30 p.m. May 29, the district told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in an emailed statement. The issue was not noticed for almost an hour. The district's server room is located directly beneath the lab where water seeped through the science lab floor.
The district said in a May 29 Facebook post the leak resulted in a total loss of its internet-based systems, including email, phones, HVAC, data and security. The district's IT department determined repairs would not finish in time for school to open safely May 30, though the district's 4K partner sites remained open that day.
The district said it was confident it will have its systems functioning so classes can resume June 2.
A district representative on May 30 did not immediately respond to the Journal Sentinel's questions, including an estimated cost of the damage and whether any instructional time will need to be made up.
