Blackburn Rovers team up with contractor to tackle roadworker abuse
A Lancashire-based contractor has teamed up with Blackburn Rovers to tackle roadworker abuse.
Multevo, a nationwide contractor, and the football club launched the campaign during Mental Health Awareness Week.
The campaign aims to highlight the impact of abuse on road workers and footballers, encouraging the public to change their behaviour.
Multevo, which has more than 370 operatives, has received more than 150 reports of physical or verbal abuse on site since the start of 2024.
The campaign features a video with Blackburn Rovers players Cauley Woodrow and Dom Hyam, and Multevo traffic management operatives Tommy Gorman, Shane Lane, and Jason Evans.
The video explores the parallels of abuse suffered by both roadworkers and footballers, and the impact it has on them.
Tommy Gorman said: "People just seem to see us as an obstruction in the road.
"Try to see us as humans rather than objects, it would probably make the world a better place."
Cauley Woodrow added: "People don't understand that as footballers we are just people.
"I think the human side of a footballer is forgotten about.
"So, if we don't perform, we then get a lot of abuse."
The campaign also aims to promote mental health support for those who face abuse.

Jason Evans said: "I've felt like quitting, on the spot.
"There was a situation that made me feel like quitting and just giving up. I thought, I can't do this anymore."
