Fort Chaffee museum re-opens after renovations
FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A museum at Fort Chaffee in Fort Smith with decades of history re-opens its doors after a year of renovations.
The Chaffee Barbershop and Military Museum has reinvented itself from a hotspot for Elvis fans to a museum celebrating the military history of the area.
Guests can now view military artifacts and even a World War II-style trench. The museum says the changes were made to give history buffs a more hands-on experience.
Fort Smith sales tax revenue down by nearly 1%
'We have a really rich history starting in World War II, and so I just think it's really fun that they can come and just learn the history and interact with the exhibits,' said Mundi Ross, director of marketing for Chaffee Crossing. 'We have just some really fun, kinda interactive exhibits that you get to come and experience.'
The museum is open Tuesdays-Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free.
