Andhra Woman Tied To Tree, Thrashed In Public By Moneylender After Husband Failed To Repay Debt
Last Updated: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten by a loan shark in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor District after her husband reportedly failed to repay a debt. In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten by a loan shark in Kuppam mandal of Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor District after her husband reportedly failed to repay a debt. The incident took place in the Narayanapuram village where Sirisha, 25, was tied to a tree with a rope and assaulted by the accused, identified as Munikannappa. The accused had reportedly lent Sirisha's husband, Thimmarayappa, Rs 80,000 three years ago. Unable to repay the debt, Thimmarayappa had left the village with his wife and their children. However, Sirisha, who works as a daily labourer, had returned to the village to retrieve her children's exam certificates, as per reports. Munikannappa reportedly spotted her in the village and started verbally abusing her, even threatening her life if the loan was not immediately repaid. According to witnesses, Munikannappa dragged Sirisha to a tree, tied her with a rope and started beating her. The accused also threatened and physically attacked locals who attempted to film the incident on their mobile phones. After receiving information from locals, police arrived on the scene and took Munikannappa into custody. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), was registered against Munikannappa. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu ordered strict action against the accused and his family for the cruel treatment of Sirisha. He spoke to the District Superintendent of Police and directed the police to extend all support to the victim's family, as per reports. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha spoke via video call with the woman. During the conversation, the minister listened to the victim's account and gathered complete details about the incident. She assured the victim that the Andhra Pradesh government would stand by her and provide all possible support. She also spoke with Chittoor District SP V.N. Woman tied to tree and beaten up over loan taken by husband in Kuppam of A.P.
A woman was tied to a tree and beaten up in public view at Narayanapuram in Kuppam mandal for her inability to repay a loan taken by her husband from a fellow villager, on Monday. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu enquired about the incident reported from his home constituency and asked the police to take stringent action against those guilty. According to police, Timmarayappa, husband of the victim, took ₹80,000 from a local moneylender, Munikannappa, three years ago, but failed to repay it. He reportedly took more loans from other villagers too. As the loans mounted, Timmarayappa left the village, while his wife Sirisha and her two children have been living in the village. Ms. Sirisha has been working as a daily wager and repaying the loans in instalments. On Monday afternoon, Munikannappa and his family members found Ms. Sirisha and his five-year-old son on the outskirts of the village. They dragged her on the road while hurling abuses. They tied her to a tree and beat her up in front of her son. Later, the villagers got Ms. Sirisha freed. Mr. Naidu spoke to SP V.N. Manikanta Chandolu about the incident. The SP informed Mr. Naidu that the accused had already been arrested. The Chief Minister also asked the officials to provide all the necessary support to the victim's family. Chittoor district in-charge Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy also enquired about the incident. Kuppam DSP Pardhasaradhi said they had received a photo of the woman being tied and beaten up on WhatsApp. By the time the police reached the spot, the villagers had set her free. Cases under various sections of the BNS, including attempt to murder, were registered against Munikannappa, Venkataramma, Raja and Jagadeswari. All of them were taken into custody. Home Minister V. Anitha spoke with the victim and assured them of all possible support. She assured them that stringent action would be taken against the accused. Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLC K.R.J. Bharat said that such incidents had become common in the State during the NDA's rule. 'TDP activists and leaders are unleashing fear and violence in the State,' he alleged. Condemning the incident, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila said, 'There is no safety for women in the State.'

The incident came to light on Tuesday, sparking outrage over the inhumane treatment. The woman was tied to a tree and physically attacked over a debt repayment, allegedly by a man named Munikannappa. The victim has been identified as Sirisha. According to reports, Sirisha's husband, Timmarayappa, had borrowed Rs 80,000 from Munikannappa three years ago. After failing to repay the loan, Timmarayappa abandoned Sirisha and their children, leaving the burden of repayment on her. Despite working as a daily labourer to support her children and repay the debt, Sirisha was subjected to public abuse for the delaying the payment. On Monday afternoon, as she was walking along the road, Munikannappa reportedly verbally abused her, threatened to kill her, and forcibly dragged her to a neem tree, where he tied her up and physically assaulted her. He also allegedly attacked villagers who tried to record the incident on their phones. Local residents immediately informed the Kuppam police, who registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS.
