Formex Launches The New Meteor Dial Essence Space Glacier
Essence Space Glacier
Formex
To mark its 25th anniversary, Formex has introduced the new Essence Space Glacier, a limited edition watch that continues the brand's exploration of meteorite dials with a new approach to finishing and detail. Available in both 39 mm and 43 mm sizes, the Space Glacier refines the concept of meteorite in watchmaking, combining high-tech materials, in-house engineering, and COSC-certified precision in a watch that stays true to Formex's ethos of accessible watchmaking.

The dial is made from the Muonionalusta meteorite, believed to be over 4.5 billion years old. Each piece displays a natural Widmanstätten pattern, which is an interlocking crystalline structure formed by millions of years of cooling in deep space. What's new here is the finishing: instead of rhodium, Formex uses 98% pure sterling silver as the base layer, which is then covered by six hand-applied coats of lightly blue-tinted zapon lacquer. The result is a cooler tone with higher contrast and a distinctly icy appearance that brings out the dial's depth without masking the natural texture of the meteorite.
The date window is beveled and machined directly into the solid meteorite, rather than applied to a brass baseplate as is common with most stone dials. It's an interesting technical detail, made possible by the material's conductivity and Formex's in-house manufacturing capabilities. Dial feet are also soldered directly to the meteorite plate, a challenging process given the material's brittleness.
Sellita SW200-1

The watch is powered by a COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and housed in the Essence case, known for its Case Suspension System, a set of four spring-mounted supports between the mid-case and case back that help absorb shock. Other features include the brand's quick-release strap system, a micro-adjustable deployant clasp with carbon fiber composite construction, and BGW9 Super-LumiNova on the hands and applied indices for nighttime readability.
Pricing starts at $1,870 USD. Both the 39 mm and 43 mm versions of the Space Glacier are limited to 100 pieces each, with pre-orders opening on April 24, 2025, and deliveries expected by the end of the same month.
