Released on 27 October 1978, on the occasion of Diwali, Big B's film proved to be a huge success in the entertainment industry. After the success of Muqaddar ka Sikandar, the film was remade in Telugu as Prema Tanrangalu (1980) and in Tamil as Amara Kaviyam (1981). It is interesting to note that this was the last film in which Vinod Khanna and Big B appeared together. Apart from that, the songs from the film also played a huge role in the success of the film.
