Rowan County woman gets lucky on $3 Powerball ticket
ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A China Grove woman tries her luck on a Powerball ticket and wins a big prize. Kim Moore got her lucky Quick Pick ticket from Murphy Express on CC Camp Road in Elkin. She matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball in the April 26 drawing, winning $50,000. Since she bought a Power Play ticket, her prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier hit. She arrived at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh Tuesday to claim her winnings. After required federal and state tax withholding, she took home $107,626. Wednesday's Powerball jackpot sits at a $189 million annuity or $83.1 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Powerball player wins $150,000 prize in North Carolina. Where was ticket sold?
A Powerball player just missed a massive jackpot prize — but still scored a big windfall in North Carolina. The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the April 26 drawing. Since the person spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option, their $50,000 prize rose to $150,000, results show. The winning numbers: white balls 1-12-14-18-69, with red ball 2. The Power Play multiplier was 3x. The lucky ticket matched four of the white balls and the red ball to win big. It was sold for $3 at a Murphy Express gas station in Elkin, a roughly 45-mile drive northwest from Winston-Salem, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and on X, formerly known as Twitter. While the player has a lot to celebrate, their ticket was one number from hitting the jackpot. Instead, a player in Kentucky scored the $167 million top prize, according to the Powerball website and the Lexington Herald-Leader. Lottery officials shared the news over the weekend, before the lucky ticket holder would have had a chance to come forward. In North Carolina, Powerball winners have about six months to claim their prizes, rules show. What to know about Powerball To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball. The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338. Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state. Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online. Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Gamecocks fan wins South Carolina lottery game's grand prize when he stops for gas
Being a Gamecocks fan paid off big for a Midlands man, as he won the grand prize on a South Carolina Education Lottery game that's adorned with USC's emblem on the ticket. The man won a $200,000 jackpot, on a ticket that he bought for $5 at the Murphy Express gas station/convenience store at 210 Ricky Lane, officials said in a news release. That's in Columbia — ironically near Clemson Road. And he has his wife to thank for winning the jackpot, according to the release. She asked him to buy her a lottery ticket while filling up their car's gas tank at the Murphy Express, officials said. 'I got her a ticket,' he said in the release. 'Then I asked if they had the Carolina card.' The avid Gamecock fan bought himself a Carolina Jackpot ticket and scratched it, but said he wasn't 100% sure that he won, according to the release. So the couple took the ticket to the Lottery's Claims Center in downtown Columbia where the win was confirmed and the ticket was cashed, officials said. As for the couples' plans for their newfound windfall, they told officials that they plan to save the prize money. The winners will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous. The odds of winning the top prize in the Carolina Jackpot game were 1-in-520,000, according to the release. This was the last of the game's three top prize-winning tickets to be claimed, and it's no longer available for sale, officials said. The Murphy Express gas station/convenience store received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket, according to the release.
