EXCLUSIVE Convicted child molester and former golf mentor Sean Lynch is hit with new child sex offences - just one year after his release from jail
Depraved golf coach Sean Lynch, who was jailed for sexually abusing a young girl, is now facing new child sex charges just one year after his release. Lynch, 71, was once known as the 'King of the Kids' for his work coaching junior athletes, including former world No. 1 Jason Day. But in his role as a mentor in Queensland, Lynch groomed and abused a gifted young girl, telling her it would help her performance on the green. Lynch kissed and touched the girl and made her perform vile sex acts on him, in what Crown prosecutor Chris Cook described as 'abhorrent and depraved conduct... for his sick, selfish sexual gratification'. The offending in 2018 and 2019 left the young girl deeply traumatised and no longer able to play golf, despite her extraordinary talent. Lynch showed no remorse at his 2022 trial and pleaded not guilty to 11 charges. He was eventually found guilty of seven. The former mentor was sentenced to three years in jail but only served 18 months, as the rest of the sentence was suspended for five years. Now, only a year after he was released, Lynch has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child between the ages of 14-16. They relate to alleged offending against a girl Lynch knew between 2017 and 2019 in the Murwillumbah area, north of Byron Bay. Lynch was arrested on Thursday after attending Tweed Heads Police Station. He appeared in Tweed Heads Court later that day and was granted conditional bail after an unnamed person lodged a $10,000 surety. The conditions included that he must surrender his Irish passport and not enter any point of departure from Australia, according to court documents. He was also not to communicate with his alleged victim or her father, or to have any contact with children unless in the company of another adult. Lynch is due to appear again in Tweed Heads Court on July 18.

Best Bets and Inside Mail for Quirindi and Murwillumbah on Monday
The Daily Telegraph's Shayne O'Cass previews racing at Quirindi and Murwillumbah on Monday. QUIRINDI BEST BET Race 6 No. 12: Shutter Lightly-raced mare perfectly set-up for her first mile contest. NEXT BEST Arrives here in country grade with good recent provincial form. VALUE Drawn one; resumes off an impressive trial win. Handy mare on her day. QUADDIE Race 4: 12,14 Race 5: 6,7.9 Race 6: 12 Race 7: 4,12 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Mikayla Weir has some good rides at Quirindi on Monday. â– â– â– â– â– MURWILLUMBAH BEST BET Race 1 No. 10: Stynsy Reliable Man 3YO who should run this trip right out. NEXT BEST Race 3 No. 4: Pear Bellini Peach of a race for this in-form Waller filly. VALUE Race 6 No. 8: Russian Diva Won twice already this prep and seems to handle the slop. RACE 1 Wanavan wears the same silks as her Hawkesbury Guineas winning 'auntie' Shazee Lee. Wanavan's best run of her five starts so far was a neck second (led) in a 1000m Super Maiden at Muswellbrook. Rest assured, she'll be in this for a long way. Clan D'Oro remains winless after 20 starts but she has placed nine times and in some quite respectable races around the place. Take note, she was a distant (led) second here on April 29 to a potentially smart horse, that being Calico Miss which runs in the last today. Bet: Wanavan to win, exacta 6 to beat 8 RACE 2 Bouzy's Babe (no rider booked) will be hard to beat in the event if she starts. If not, all roads lead to the John Ramsey filly Pathelia who is a valuable broodmare given she is by The Autumn Sun out of G3 winner Dawnie Perfect whose own dam, Zagalia, was fourth in a Cox Plate. Pathelia comes back from 2200m to 1450m but has done that before effectively. Cup Of Ambition has gone 26 starts now without a win but this is winnable. Bet: Bouzy's babe to win or if scratched Pathelia each-way RACE 3 Press Forward has won only three races in his 41 starts but has 10 seconds and six thirds. Long story short, some of those seconds were by very narrow margins and barriers haven't always been kind to him. Happy days here for the Brett Robb trained gelding who should get every possible chance from barrier 4. Might not be a faster horse in action at Quirindi today than Too Darn Lovely. Boasts a win and a third at his only two runs at the track/trip. Bet: Press Forward to win, quinella 1,2 RACE 4 The Piccolino was runner-up to two pretty good horses on March 24 and April 14 respectively. Looked close to a good thing on April 29 in a weaker Maiden but was beaten. In his defence, he was well back, came wide and ran on really well. It's time! Speaking of which, Holy Song is a 14 start maiden but he has run more races than bad. Well placed in this affair. Gerry Harvey's Musumeci was a shade disappointing at $3.40 last start but can atone. Bet: The Piccolino to win RACE 5 Arrabbiata is a handy mare and a very well bred broodmare for later on too given her direct descendant of the noteworthy producer - Subterfuge. As for her own talents, Arrabbita boasts two wins, four seconds and a third from her 17 starts. She broke her maiden here (at her only visit) by six lengths and has run some very respectable races in country, provincial and city grade. Great trial too. Insightful Award has won three of 12, one of those wins was here at Quirindi. Very fit and very well weighted; can't say the same about her barrier (10/10). Bet: Arrabiata to win, Daily Double 1st Leg 9, 2nd Leg (4) RACE 6 Shutter has had six starts for a Gunnedah maiden win and two thirds. That is the chronological order of her form leading into Monday's mission so she is in good form. The most appealing thing about her today is that it is a mile and she should relish that. Ditto that for Girly Pop who is another lightly-raced type; in her case a 3YO filly who won over 1400m on debut and is, as mentioned, crying out for 1600m now. Old hardheads, Bill Peyto and Badboy McCoy, are in contention. Divine Bene has a fascinating pedigree; mostly because of his sixth dam, Sweet Embrace, still the longest priced winner of the Golden Slipper when she took out the 1967 edition, while still a maiden, at 40/1. As for Divine Bene, he heads back to the bush armed with Newcastle form. Sagaponack is a very valuable great granddaughter of Lady Jakeo. She was super impressive winning her Maiden at Port Mac last start. Has obvious talent. Eager to see how Calico Miss follows up her emphatic debut win here from April 29.

Matt Dunn gelding Boom Torque recharges batteries for Queensland winter carnival assault
Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn believes his gun gelding Boom Torque is primed for a Queensland winter carnival assault after finally getting a decent break. Boom Torque will go first-up into the $160,000 Listed Australian Turf Club Trophy (1200m) on the Gold Coast on Saturday as the $4.20 favourite after a four-month spell. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. His last appearance at the racetrack was an impressive third in the $1.5m Magic Millions QTIS (1300m) behind star sprinters Hidden Wealth and Cifrado on the Gold Coast on January 17. 'He's improved a bit physically and he's a bit stronger again,' Dunn said. 'I think he's in for a very good prep because it's the first time he's had a proper spell for a really long time. 'We short spelled him, short spelled him and then got him ready for the Magic Millions (in January). 'He hasn't had a proper break like he did this time so I think that's really going to help him.' Champion jockey Blake Shinn will ride five-year-old Boom Torque on Saturday against the likes of the Peter Snowden-trained Need Some Luck ($4.60) and last-start Group 2 Sapphire Stakes winner Infancy ($5.50). Dunn holds Stradbroke Handicap ambitions for Boom Torque, who was initially purchased for $50,000 before the Murwillumbah horseman took over his training in mid 2023. 'Obviously to get up to that level, he needs to be racing better this time in than he ever has before but I think he can improve again,' said Dunn, who paid tribute to the gelding's owner Ian Corazzol for his massive support. 'At this stage that's the goal and if we need to deviate from that, we still can. There are plenty of options for him but the Stradbroke is the No.1 goal.' Dunn had immediate success with Boom Torque after taking over his training from Kacy Blaxland, winning five of his first six races in charge, including last year's Magic Millions QTIS when the gelding defeated Better Get Set and Chinny Boom. 'I was lucky because he came to me when Kacy retired from training. He was still a maiden and he won his first four races for me,' Dunn said. 'He kept growing in confidence every time we went to the races. Every time he stepped up to another level he'd beat them better than what he did in the previous level. 'When he won on Magic Millions Day (2024) that win was the pinnacle of his career and he was incredible that day. 'He got to the wrong part of the track, spotted the leaders 10 lengths on the straight and still ran past them to beat them all.' Dunn admitted he was concerned about the likelihood of a soft track, with up to 10mm of rain predicted on the Gold Coast on Friday and another 10mm on Saturday. 'He doesn't like soft ground but he'll make his presence felt,' the trainer said. 'He's not completely cranked up. I've left a little bit in him so what he does he'll get better off. 'But 1200m first-up, he always raced very well fresh. He generally takes one race to get to his best but he's had the benefit of a trial so he's good enough.'

Two women taken to hospital after being injured in separate lightning strikes as deluge of rain hammers southeast Queensland
Two women have suffered injuries in two separate lightning strike incidents as parts of southeast Queensland have been hammered by more than 200mm of rain. Emergency services confirmed both women were taken to hospital following the two separate incidents, although they were not directly struck by lightning. The first incident occurred about 12.43am on Friday when a woman suffered neck pain after her property on Yandina Bli Bli Road on the Sunshine Coast was hit. She was taken to Nambour Hospital in a stable condition. The second incident happened just two hours later, when a lightning strike caused a small fire on a property on Coutts Drive in Burpengary. A woman sustained minor burns and was taken to Caboolture Hospital in a stable condition. Nambour has been one of the hardest hit towns as southeast Queensland copped a battering. In the three hours up to 1.31am, Nambour recorded a whopping 136mm of rain, while Mapleton recorded 140mm in three hours up to 1.47am. The Maroochy Intake Weir copped 91mm between midnight and 1am, while 151mm soaked the Sunshine Coast town of West Woombye between 10.23pm and 1.23am. The Bureau of Meteorology said flash flooding was a threat as multiple locations recorded three-hour totals between 130mm and 150mm. There are no current thunderstorm warnings on the BOM website, however earlier on Friday it said there was a "slight chance" heavy falls could redevelop throughout the morning, but the message was revoked shortly after 8am. It appears the brunt of the bad weather occurred overnight and in the early hours of the morning, with less showers forecast for the rest of the day in the affected parts of Queensland. The bad weather put a dampener on Anzac Day commemorations in some parts of the state. Nambour's dawn service and 9am Anzac parade down Ann Street were cancelled as streets were hit by flash flooding. A large number of chairs which were prepared to be laid out for the service were washed away, leaving behind a large clean-up operation. "We planned for a long time… and put so much effort into this over the past three or four months," Nambour RSL sub-branch president Wes Davidson told ABC. "Unfortunately, this morning I just had to make the call." The Tweed Heads march and service were also cancelled, as well as Murwillumbah's march. A dawn service in Deception Bay, in the Moreton Bay region was also called off.
