Olly Murs makes defiant return to the stage after being forced to axe gigs

Olly Murs is back in action after an unexpected bout of illness forced him to cancel a string of shows. The pop star, 41, has been performing across the country with his 15 Years of Hits Tour, supported by boy band Blue and celebrating his music career since rising to fame on The X Factor in 2009. However, disaster struck on Thursday night when Olly had to abandon his gig in Glasgow midway through, having performed for just 20 minutes before making a crushing announcement to the packed arena. The Dear Darlin' hitmaker told the crowd: 'My voice has gone.' Just after battling through Kiss Me Like You Mean It, he explained to the OVO Hydro crowd: 'This has never happened to me before, but you can hear my voice is going.' Olly apologised profusely, promising refunds and admitting he wouldn't want to carry on and risk 'ruining' the show for those who paid to see him. 'That's so unlike me, so I just wanna say sorry from the bottom of my heart,' he added. We've teamed up with SXSW London to give away two pairs of Music Festival Wristbands valid for 2-7 June 2025. 'I have contracted a respiratory infection and have been instructed to go on a strict 48 hour voice rest by the doctor to ensure no further damage to my vocal chords [sic]', his caption read. 'I've been having the best time on this tour and I'm so sorry to let my fans down, I'm hoping to be fighting fit in a few days to finish this amazing 15 year celebratory tour with a bang.' Stars including Alexandra Burke and Duncan James wished Olly well after he admitted scrapping his gigs was 'hurting big time' since he loves performing so much. Estelle: 'Everyone wants the next American Boy but I don't care'

If you were around in 2008, there was no way to avoid the all-consuming success of American Boy — but singer Estelle couldn't care less. As she releases her first new studio album in seven years, named Stay Alta, Estelle reflects on the expectations to produce another chart topper. She told Metro: 'I'm not pleasing [everyone], I'm gonna live my life. I have all these records that do well in whatever space they do well in, but they do well because they're truthful to me in that moment, and that's all I care about. 'When people like it, most times they do because it's authentic.' Estelle, 45, shares that she is all about living in the moment and being joyful, rather than looking back and overanalysing her highs and lows. '[American Boy] is my biggest song,' she says with a shrug. 'It is what it is.' The 00s track, featuring Kanye West, has become a cultural touchstone — partly thanks to Gavin and Stacey — and remains the best-known track by the London-born singer. While she recognises that American Boy may have 'shone brighter' than her other music, she's never chased the hit as 'lightning isn't going to strike twice'. We've teamed up with SXSW London to give away two pairs of Music Festival Wristbands valid for 2-7 June 2025. Full T&Cs apply, see here. Her feelings about the track's legacy are a little mixed, but the iconic Gavin and Stacey moment let her know that she had 'hit certain points in culture'. Estelle shared: 'If everyone had their way, I'd have had to make 10 more 1980s. And that's my annoyance with people, you have short-term memories because remember when American Boy came out and you were like 'Well, it's no 1980'.' She jokingly banged the table in frustration, and added: 'Now everyone's like, 'Well it's no American Boy'. I don't care!' Fans demanded a sequel at the time, so she caved and put out Fall In Love, which, according to Estelle, is functionally a rewrite of the smash hit single. 'Somebody wrote that record again and said, 'Here', and you guys asked me to sing and I said, 'Okay', and you don't want it,' she laughed. After 20 years in the business, the Thank You hitmaker is well aware that songs are going to be compared to each other, so she's done trying to pander. 'I think every other album has felt like — to a degree — I did it for everybody else, family, friends, for the expectation for a version of me that got me here,' she shared. 'I no longer need this version, [I am] who I am today and who I hope to be.' The Grammy winner sees her post-pandemic self as 'wildly different' to the Estelle we knew in 2018 when she was last releasing a studio album. Her transformation started when she 'got help' and began seeing a therapist and decided to be 'intentionally happy'. 'I don't have to be anything other than who I am,' the Conqueror singer said. 'This album says all of that, and I feel like there are so many more people who will identify with that.' Stay Alta has actually been in the works since 2012, but the timing was incredibly important for Estelle. She doesn't believe in releasing music for the sake of it, explaining that she 'lives the music'; every song is a part of her story. Estelle said: 'When I put music out, I want to care about it. It's important that this music isn't something that's just for the sake of like, 'Oh, she's putting out an album out', it's none of that. 'It's 'I've made a really great album. I'm so proud of it.'' This album in particular was one the singer felt she 'needed', as it is filled with 'light' and 'joy'. 'There's a lot of joy in a way that's not weak, but that's vulnerable and gives people permission to do something other than what they've been taught,' she explained. This need for joy was sparked when the alum really began to take shape in 2018, when the overall sound had a 'dark undertone' in Estelle's eyes. She didn't hear uplifting music on the radio or in the festival line-ups, instead, everything was 'pulling us into this crucible of dark'. 'Not to sound dramatic,' Estelle laughed and added that now, 'we are beyond ready to be happy.' Reflecting on funk in the 80s or punk and R&B in the 90s, the Steven Universe actress said this is where music is about to go again. She said: 'The world is telling us that everything is going to s**t but we have a choice. We have a choice as to whether our emotions and our heads go to s**t as well. 'I don't believe that we want that. I think we want joy and happiness and to be seen, heard, affirmed, and allowed. We want to be given permission to live.' As for the future, whether there's another huge runaway hit in store or not, Estelle plans to take the opportunities as they come – be that on the screen, the page, or in your headphones. Maybe even live from Worthy Farm as she joked that someone should 'sneak her on' for a mini set at Glastonbury 2025. More Trending For her bigger goals, after voicing Garnet in Steven Universe, she has her sights set on an Oscar, but is 'just putting things in the air' and seeing how things unfold. 'I just want to continue being joyful and being intentionally joyful and hope that wherever I step, wherever I am, joy is there.' Maybe 'there' could still be Worthy Farm this year, Estelle does have a song with Busta Rhymes after all. Estelle's new album Stay Alta is out now. Got a story? Glastonbury glampers who paid £16,500 left ticketless after Yurtel goes bust

Glastonbury attendees who splashed out on a luxury yurt have reportedly been left ticketless and up to £16,500 out of pocket after Yurtel went bust. The luxury glamping company, which offers packages at the Worthy Farm festival, is understood to have gone into liquidation and ceased trading as of May 8. It has been reported that emails sent to those who booked accommodation and event tickets through Yurtel have been informed their bookings won't be fulfilled. Packages for hospitality tickets and accommodation ranged from £10,000 to £16,500. The BBC reports that these packages 'cannot be refunded' and that details of the claim process for would-be festival goers to get back their money would be provided to creditors when liquidation starts. According to the Liverpool Echo, the email read: 'Yurtel provided luxury glamping accommodation and hospitality facilities to festival goers. 'It ceased normal trading operations on 8 May 2025 due to insolvency and will commence formal liquidation shortly. It cannot fulfil its future obligations to customers.' We've teamed up with SXSW London to give away two pairs of Music Festival Wristbands valid for 2-7 June 2025. Tickets to enter the festival have not been purchased on your behalf. 'Glastonbury Festival has no involvement with the operation of Yurtel but will be able to outline any alternative options which may be available to you. Please email Yurtel@ to confirm you consent to us sharing your name, contact email and the number of people in your party with the Festival organisers. 'Accommodation booked with Yurtel will not be available. Should you require accommodation you will need to book with an alternative festival accommodation provider.' The email went on to explain how customers could not be refunded by Yurtel. 'In the first instance, customers should make enquiries to see if they can claim from their credit card issuer, under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, where payment was made to Yurtel by credit card. 'A customer who does not qualify to reclaim from their credit card provider will need to make a claim in Yurtel's liquidation. Details of the claim process will be notified to all Yurtel's creditors once the liquidation has commenced.' Speaking to Metro, Glastonbury Festival said: 'We were sorry to learn that Yurtel Limited has appointed liquidators, and appreciate how disappointing this is for anyone who was planning to stay with them. 'Glastonbury Festival has no involvement with the operation of Yurtel Limited and as such we have no records of their bookings and are unable to take any responsibility for the services and the facilities they offer. 'Whilst Yurtel was one of a small number of campsites local to the Festival site with limited access to purchase hospitality tickets for their guests in certain circumstances, they had not paid Glastonbury Festival for any tickets for the 2025 Festival prior to entering into liquidation, and therefore no tickets were secured for their guests. 'Anyone who has paid Yurtel for a package including Glastonbury 2025 tickets will need to pursue any potential recompense available from them via the liquidation process as outlined in their communication to you. We are not able to incur the cost or responsibility of their loss or replacement. 'That said, we are asking Yurtel's customers to contact Yurtel@ to confirm their consent for them to share their personal data and details of their party with us. We will then be able to provide details of alternative potential sources for those customers to purchase tickets and accommodation for this year's Festival.' On their website, Yurtel offers 'luxury, exclusivity, and first-class service' in their festival packages, promising 'seriously comfy canvas accommodation' Other perks on offer included bars, spas, hot tubs, and award-winning restaurants in their camps, bespoke to each festival. More Trending Speaking to the BBC, Lydia, who spent £10,000 on a package, said she was 'absolutely gutted' by the development. 'This was a very, very expensive thing that people would save for. It is no drop in the ocean,' she said. Confirmed headliners for the festival this year include The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo, while Charli XCX, Doechii, Kaiser Chiefs, The Libertines, and Fatboy Slim will all be taking to the festival's stages as well. Metro has contacted representatives for Glastonbury Festival and Yurtel for comment . Got a story? Lawson frontman Andy Brown undergoing chemotherapy after rare health diagnosis

Andy Brown from the boy band Lawson has revealed his health diagnosis for the first time which puts him at risk of leukaemia. The lead vocalist for the band, 38, shared an image from his hospital bed as he shared that he has been privately dealing with a rare blood disorder for the past decade. 'For the past 10 years, I've been living with a rare blood disorder. Up to now, it hadn't massively affected my day-to-day life, apart from frequent blood tests and the occasional infection, but as things stand, if it's not treated, I have a very high chance of developing leukaemia. 'I've been under close supervision at King's College Hospital in London, which has one of the country's leading haematology departments. And after a lot of discussions, we've come to the decision that the best way to prevent leukaemia is for me to have a stem cell transplant. He then revealed that he has found a donor – a person who he has never met. 'I have a 100% matching donor. I find it so overwhelming that a total stranger, someone I've never met, is willing to give up their cells and blood to save my life. That's just incredible. With everything awful going on in the world, it's easy to lose faith in people, but then you see things like this, people willing to do something so selfless, and it restores your hope.' He then explained that he was hoping sharing his story would encourage others to learn about stem cell donation and sign the register. He added that he would update fans on his journey and share his story as he hopes to make a full recovery. 'It's stepped up big time the last couple of days, not feeling the best at the moment, but there's just no way around it. Three more days to go, then the new stem cells go in next Tuesday!' He added that although he was being upbeat, the chemotherapy had been gruelling. 'Staying positive as much as I can, but I won't pretend it's easy. I've spent years being so mindful of what I put into my body, ten years sober, clean eating, all of it. 'So feeling what this chemo is doing hits hard. But I know it's part of the fight. It's about accepting it, getting through it, and coming back stronger.' 'Anyway, next week is when the real battle begins. That's when the transplant happens, and my body starts the process of rebuilding from scratch. It's a second chance at life, and not everyone gets that opportunity. 'Stem cell donors are hard to find. You could literally be the match that saves a little girl's life, a dad's life, someone's world. If you're healthy and able, please consider signing up to the register. It takes minutes, but it can change everything for someone like me. 'This is just another chapter. Nothing is gonna stop me #StemCellTransplant#ChemoJourney' This comes just a week after he announced to fans that he had been living with a rare blood disorder for 10 years. Andy has previously battled other health issues, and 18 years ago he had a brain tumour removed. When the band was actually originally called The Groves but opted to be renamed Lawson after David Lawson, a consultant neurosurgeon at The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool, who operated on Andy. The singer credited the doctor with saving his life in 2007 after a gruelling 17-hour-long operation to remove an acoustic neuroma, a non-cancerous brain tumour that was growing on the nerve of his inner ear. Lawson hasn't released an album since 2021, and Andy appears to have found focus in his new photography career. The singer was supported by various fans and friends in the music industry. More Trending Zoe Ball commented: 'sending love 🧡.' Laura Whitmore added: 'Think of you Andy. Rock's most bitter break-ups as The Who axe drummer Zak Starkey again

The Who have sacked long-standing drummer Zak Starkey for the second time in a matter of weeks, and we've taken a look at the most dramatic rock band breakups. The legendary group fired Starkey after decades last month following a 'huge fall out' over a Royal Albert Hall gig before bringing him back into the fold, but now they've parted ways yet again. 'After many years of great work on drums from Zak the time has come for a change,' Pete Townshend wrote on Instagram. 'A poignant time. Zak has lots of new projects in hand and I wish him the best.' However, the drummer has fired back and insisted he was'fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit to follow my other musical endeavours'. He continued in his own post: 'This would be a lie. I love the who and would never had quit. So I didn't make the statement ….quitting the who would also have let down the countless amazing people who stood up for me (thank you all a million times over and more) thru the weeks of mayhem of me going in an out an in an out an in an out like a bleedin squeezebox x (sic)' While he does 'have other projects', Zayn noted that's 'always' been the case but claimed: 'None of this has ever interfered with The Who and was never a problem for them'. In a previous statement last month, The Who announced last month that they had 'made a collective decision to part ways with Zak after this round of shows at the Royal Albert Hall'. 'They have nothing but admiration for him and wish him the very best for his future,' they added. Just two days before the announcement, Zak hinted that the lead singer, Roger Daltrey, was 'unhappy' with his recent performances at the Royal Albert Hall. He suggested in the post they were going to, 'Zak [or sack] the drummer' after accusing him of 'overplaying' at the Teenage Cancer Trust shows. Metro attended the charity performance on March 30 where, mid-performance, Daltrey complained he was unable to hear over the drums and halted the show multiple times. After a few frustrated arm gestures and comments throughout the evening, the final track was cut off as Roger explained he could not hear. 'To sing that song, I do need to hear the key, and I can't. All I've got is drums going boom, boom, boom. I can't sing to that. I'm sorry guys,' he told the audience. Lead vocalist Roger and guitarist Pete formed The Who in 1964 alongside the late John Entwistle. Zak joined the band in 1996 and has continued to play with the band for 29 years – until now. He returned shortly after the initial statement, as the band said: 'There have been some communication issues, personal and private on all sides, that needed to be dealt with, and these have been aired happily.' However, things have since gone south once more. The Who isn't the only rock band to split and leave things on a sour note. Here are some of the most dramatic band breakups in music history. Guns N' Roses announced in March that drummer Frank Ferrer has left the band after 19 years. Ferrer, 58, joined frontman Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, and bassist Duff McKagan in June 2006. The rock band posted a statement on X, saying: 'Guns N' Roses announce the amicable exit of Frank Ferrer, the longest-serving drummer in their storied run. 'Frank first joined (the band) during a show in June 2006 helping anchor the rhythm section during subsequent tours, including their recent outings featuring the reunited trio of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. 'His last show with the band took place November 5, 2023 in Mexico.' The post also said: 'The band thanks Frank for his friendship, creativity, and sturdy presence over the past 19 years, and they wish him success in the next chapter of his musical journey.' This is only the latest chapter in the band's long history of lineup changes and drama. While the history of rock and roll is littered with urban legends and true stories of guitar-smashing, dressing-room showdowns, drug-fueled brawls, and lots of hurt feelings, Guns N' Roses may just be the most contentious band to ever take the stage. The band's notoriously volatile frontman Axl Rose, has usually been at the centre of the drama. While the band – which was one of the biggest of the 80s – broke up in 1996 when guitarist Slash left the band, followed quickly by bassist Duff McKagan, the beginning of the end came in 1990 when founding drummer Steve Adler was fired. Rose and Adler locked horns countless times in their decade of stardom, with one famous incident coming when the band lived together in the 80s. As the story goes, Rose was asleep on a couch in the evening, shortly before the band were set to play an LA show. Adler started passively-aggressively cleaning up, making a racket. Things escalated, and Rose threw a coffee table at his drummer, and soon the pair were locked in a fistfight. Even more shockingly, Rose recorded himself having sex with Adriana Smith in 1987, who had previously been dating Adler. He then used the audio in the background of the song Rocket Queen as a dig at Adler, further making the battle lines clear. In 1990, Adler was fired from the band as he struggled with a heroin addiction. Rose told MTV in 1990: 'Steven didn't leave the band. Steven was fired. We gave him every ultimatum, we tried working with other drummers. We had Steven sign a contract saying if he went back to drugs, he was out. He couldn't leave his drugs. And other things have happened involved with Steven that Steven is basically someone I used to know.' But the conflict didn't end there, and Rose became harder and harder to work with as the years passed. 'After a while, I could barely show up because the animosity was so crippling,' Slash later wrote in his autobiography of the band's eventual breakdown. 'It was so negative.' Axl Rose continued performing under the Guns N' Roses name with a rotating cast of musicians in the years that followed, but the band's iconic lineup never truly reunited for the long term. A true oldies rock act, the Everly Brothers – Phil and Don – had a string of hits including Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Susie, and Cathy's Clown in the 50s and 60s. But the biological brothers never truly managed to get along, and things finally came to an explosive end in 1973. Already certain the show was their last, a California gig saw Don taking the stage obviously inebriated, infuriating his brother. 'I was half in the bag that evening — the only time I've ever been drunk onstage in my life,' Don later told Rolling Stone. 'I knew it was the last night, and on the way out I drank some tequila, drank some champagne – started celebrating the demise. It was really a funeral.' Don – whose addiction to Ritalin made things even more tense with his brother – was slurring the words and struggling to keep up as the show progressed. Soon, his enraged brother smashed his guitar on the stage, shocking the audience as he stormed off stage, leaving his brother in the lurch. While the brothers eventually buried the hatchet, performing together again a decade later, they truly set the tone for dramatic rock band breakups. As Phil Everly said in 1970: 'We only ever had one argument. It's been lasting for 25 years.' Of course, no list of band breakups would be complete without mention of Noel and Liam Gallagher. Their dramatic breakup in 2009 was preceded by countless instances of the brothers taking aim at each other both on stage and off, with Noel eventually leaving the band and declaring he simply couldn't work with his brother anymore. In a statement released at the time, Noel wrote: 'It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.' He continued by aiming one more creative insult at his brother: 'He's like a man with a fork in a world of soup.' Reportedly, an altercation at Paris' Rock en Seine Festival was the final nail in the coffin for Oasis. Liam reportedly smashed one of Noel's guitars in the midst of the fight, and soon after, Noel left for good. Subsequently, Liam sued Noel for statements he made about the breakup. Liam resented his brother for leaving him behind, later telling The Guardian that Noel's claims that Liam's behaviour led to the end of the band were absurd because 'that was my behaviour since day one.' He continued: 'That's what made Oasis what it was. I wasn't any different, but all of a sudden, he's turned into Ronan Keating or some soft c***, going: 'We can't have that behaviour.'' He continued: 'I was sitting at home with no management, no office, and no one to really speak to, while Noel was still walking into his big management office, having everyone running around after him, getting smart and dissing people. 'Looking back with hindsight, you can go: 'You're a big boy' and all that, but when you've had all that stuff for 20 years… I could barely tie my shoelace, let alone run my business or my life. All that support was taken away, but little Noely G had it all still there.' Mick Fleetwood, co-founder of legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac, has shared his hopes for reconciliation between ex-bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in recent months after the band's infamous decades of drama. Former guitarist Lindsey, 74, and frontwoman Stevie, 76, have had a turbulent relationship over the past five decades and beyond. This included a love affair throughout the 1970s that ended around the creation of the band's renowned 1977 album, Rumours (which featured Lindsey's iconic break-up song Go Your Own Way). But as Lindsey and Stevie's personal and professional relationship deteriorated over the years, everything came to a head in 2018 when Lindsey suddenly ruptured from the band. The former flames have not toured together since, with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn taking Lindsey's place. 'It's no secret, it's no title-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally,' Mick, 77, said in a recent interview about the feuding duo. 'Stevie's able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn't feel, as does Lindsey. But I'll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn't have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily,' he added to Mojo magazine. Whether they will bury the hatchet remains to be seen but in 2021 Lindsey opened up about his perspective on why he was dumped from the band to the LA Times. 'It would be like a scenario where Mick Jagger says, 'Either Keith [Richards] goes or I go.' 'No, neither one of you can go. But I guess the singer has to stay. The figurehead has to stay.' 'I think she saw the possibility of remaking the band more in the Stevie Nicks vein. More mellow and kind of down, giving her more chances to do the kind of talking she does onstage.' Stevie, however, fiercely hit back against Lindsey's retelling, calling it 'factually inaccurate'. She continued: 'To be exceedingly clear, I did not have him fired, I did not ask for him to be fired, I did not demand he be fired. 'Frankly, I fired myself. I proactively removed myself from the band and a situation I considered to be toxic to my well-being. I was done. If the band went on without me, so be it.' The original lineup of Van Halen, featuring brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, bassist Michael Anthony, and frontman David Lee Roth, burst onto the music scene in the late 1970s with their self-titled debut album, quickly becoming a bona fide cultural movement and some of the biggest icons of the decade. But they were quickly plagued by conflict, with Eddie infamously throwing a bowl of guacamole at David backstage in 1978. He missed the singer entirely and instead hit Steve Perry, who cried, according to Runnin' With the Devil, a 2017 memoir by Van Halen's former manager, Noel Monk. In another instance in the same year, the band destroyed the entire seventh floor of a hotel in Wisconsin. The chaos began when Eddie came back to his room to discover that David had thrown the table and chairs from the room outside into the snow. The tension between David and Eddie came to a head in 1985, following the release of the hugely successful album 1984, which featured hits like Jump and Panama. Although the album was a commercial triumph, behind the scenes, David and Eddie were barely speaking, with their communication mostly limited to musical disagreements that would turn to shouting matches and even more property destruction. Our new series on the history of rock and roll will dig into the stories, myths, dramas, songs, people, and legendary events that have shaped the greatest music genre over the last 50 years. From the inspirations behind songs everyone knows to the antics and little-known drama of iconic bands, Metro is excited to offer readers informative content that allows them to revisit the golden days of rock. David decided to leave the band, citing creative differences and a desire to pursue his own music as a solo artist. He told Billboard in 1985 that he never truly felt welcome in the band that he helped make famous, saying: 'Since my very first days in with the band 11 years ago, I have always had the feeling that one day I would wake up in a cold hotel, all the rooms would be empty and I would be stuck by a phone with a busy signal. From the first day. Nothing has changed.' But Eddie later claimed it was David's ego that broke the band up, telling Rolling Stone in 1986 that David said: 'I can't work with you guys anymore. I want to do my movie. Maybe when I'm done, we'll get back together.' Unlike other groups on this list, the conflict at the heart of Sonic Youth was between a husband and wife. Formed in New York City in 1981, the iconic rock band was originally comprised of Kim Gordon (bass, vocals, guitar), Thurston Moore (guitar, vocals), and Lee Ranaldo (guitar, vocals). Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore were happily married for decades, successfully working together within the band as they churned out hits. But in 2010, Gordon was left blindsided and heartbroken as she discovered text messages on Moore's phone from another woman, leading to their divorce after 27 years of marriage. She detailed the traumatic incident in her memoir Girl in a Band, writing: 'One morning I got up to do yoga. Thurston was still asleep, and I looked down at his cell[phone]. It was then that I saw her texts about their wonderful weekend together, about how much she loved him, and his writing back the same things.' More Trending Obviously distraught, she eventually went onto his laptop and found more evidence of the affair including a 'porno-like' video. Soon after, the pair divorced, and the band called it quits. This article was originally published on March 17. Got a story?
