Ecuadorian man facing charges of illegal reentry into U.S., violating probation
TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — An Ecuadorian man was charged by a federal complaint for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after being deported, the U.S. Attorney's office said.
Roberto Muy, 35, was initially admitted to the U.S. in 2006 using a falsified Peruvian visa. In June 2012 Muy was convicted for second-degree sexual assault of a minor and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The sentence was suspended after 15 months and Muy faced 25 years of probation before he was deported to Ecuador in 2013.
Muy allegedly reentered the U.S. in 2024 and was arrested on Nov. 9 of that year and charged with operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
He was sentenced on March 18 in state court for violating state probation and the 2024 motor vehicle stop.
Muy faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if he is convicted of illegal reentry.
