PM Modi: Govt initiatives over 11 years helped farmers prosper

PM Modi (File Photo) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said initiatives undertaken during the last 11 years of his tenure have increased the prosperity of farmers and ensured an overall transformation of the farm sector, and promised that his govt's efforts towards farmer welfare will continue with "greater vigour" in the times to come. Ahead of 11th anniversary of his govt on June 9, the day he took oath for a third consecutive term in office last year, the Prime Minister posted on X a thread of a citizen engagement platform (MyGovIndia) that underlined how the farmers from being trapped in debt and uncertainty are now empowered with dignity, direct income support, better prices, modern infrastructure, and access to global markets through a massive 112% jump in agricultural export (from Rs 1.94 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 4.12 lakh crore in 2023-24). Emphasising how his govt worked to boost "dignity and prosperity" of farmers, Modi in his post said the farmers had to earlier depend on loans even to meet their basic needs but their lives have now become easier due to several decisions taken by the Centre. "We have taken several important decisions to ensure farmer welfare, whether it's PM-Kisan (income support scheme) or crop insurance scheme. Due to continuous increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP), the country's food producers are not only receiving fair prices for their crops but are also experiencing a rise in their income," Modi posted on X, reflecting on the last 11 years. The PM highlighted that govt has paid close attention to key aspects such as soil health and irrigation, which have been greatly beneficial, and urged people to read the thread, posted by the citizen engagement platform of the govt on empowering farmers and uplifting the country's farmers. The platform also shared basic details of almost all the initiatives taken by the Modi govt in the last 11 years for farmers and the farm sector. It noted that the crop insurance scheme helped insure over 23 crore farmers and disbursed claims of Rs 1.75 lakh crore, securing incomes and reducing risk. It also said the agricultural credit shot up from Rs 7.3 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 27.5 lakh crore this year, making access to affordable finance a reality for every small farmer. It also highlighted infrastructural development of the farm sector in 11 years, and shared how initiatives helped in substantially increasing foodgrain production.

"Government's efforts led to transformative outcomes for poor and marginalised": PM Modi

New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underlined the government's focus on inclusive development over the past 11 years, stating that his administration's efforts have resulted in 'transformative outcomes' that have especially benefitted the poor and marginalised sections of society. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, 'Our Government's efforts towards all-round development have led to transformative outcomes and benefitted the poor and marginalised. #11YearsOfGaribKalyan.' The Prime Minister's post was in response to a message by MyGovIndia, which highlighted the central government's achievements in inclusive growth. 'A growth that includes everyone! In 11 years, PM Narendra Modi has turned inclusive development into reality, ensuring no one is left behind. Only empowerment, not promises. This is Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas in action,' MyGovIndia wrote. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Union Council of Ministers meeting, the first such meeting after Operation Sindoor. 'Chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers earlier this evening,' PM Modi posted on X. Sources said that a presentation on Operation Sindoor was made at the meeting. They said all the ministries presented their key achievements, which are expected to be highlighted during the first anniversary celebrations of the PM Modi government in its third term. The sources said PM Modi is learnt to have talked of the performance of the Indian-made defence systems during Operation Sindoor and the government's thrust on indigenisation. They said PM Modi laid thrust on hard work to realise the targets set by the government. India launched Operation Sindoor as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pak-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists. India also effectively responded to subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. India and Pakistan agreed to stop military action after Pakistan's DGMO called his Indian counterpart on May 10. (ANI)

Blackout, Air Sirens, And More: What Happens In May 7 Security Drills? Dos And Don'ts Explained

Last Updated: Officials have advised the public to keep essential items ready, such as first-aid kits, torches, candles, and some cash in case digital payment systems fail India is set to conduct a nationwide civil defence mock drill on Wednesday, 7 May, across 244 districts. This large-scale exercise comes amid heightened tensions with Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam last month. The drill will simulate wartime scenarios, including air raid sirens, blackouts, and emergency response protocols. It marks the first national-level civil defence preparedness activity since the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The Union Home Ministry had on Monday instructed all states and Union Territories to carry out the drill, citing 'new and complex threats" following the 22 April attack in Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed. Key Focus Areas The mock drill aims to raise public awareness and preparedness in case of hostile attacks. Citizens will be guided on how to respond to air raid sirens, manage during blackouts, and follow evacuation procedures. Officials have advised the public to keep essential items ready, such as first-aid kits, torches, candles, and some cash in case digital payment systems fail. The Civil Defence Mock Drill – Preparation, Not Panic!India is rolling out Civil Defence Mock Drills nationwide on 7th May 2025 — routine exercises to test our emergency systems. No chaos. No confusion. Just smart preparedness in motion. Here's what you need to know.… — MyGovIndia (@mygovindia) May 6, 2025 Operationalising Hotlines and Radio Links with the Indian Air Force (IAF): War sirens will be tested in sensitive areas to ensure readiness during an air raid. Civilian and Student Training: Citizens, including students, will be trained in basic civil defence measures. This is especially vital for younger generations with no experience of war. Implementing Blackout Protocols: Full blackout procedures will be tested in cities and villages to prepare for possible air strikes. Camouflaging Vital Installations: Efforts will be made to shield key infrastructure from potential enemy targeting. Evacuation Plan Testing: Evacuation procedures will be rehearsed to check how efficiently people can be moved from vulnerable areas. Key Participants Volunteer Participation Sources told PTI that around 6 lakh volunteers are expected to participate, although the actual number may be higher. States have been instructed to involve a wide range of stakeholders, including students, government and private employees, hospital staff, metro and railway officials, as well as police, paramilitary, and defence personnel. Vulnerable locations include major metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, along with border towns and areas with critical infrastructure like nuclear facilities. According to officials, this drill will help identify any gaps in preparedness, which will then be promptly addressed. The process of reviewing critical sites will continue over the next three days. What Does The Mock Drill Entail? Civil Defence is governed by the Civil Defence Act. Under this act, the District Magistrate (DM) or the district collector is assigned the nodal officer for civil defence in each district. Starting Wednesday (May 7), the DMs will revisit the list of civil defence volunteers and update the contact numbers and names which will be prepared in case of any emergency. An official said that vulnerable districts throughout India have been identified and the collectors will lead the drill on Wednesday in these districts.
