World Music Day 2025: Date, history, quotes, significance — all you need to know
World Music Day 2025 Theme and History: Music plays a significant role in our lives, possessing the remarkable ability to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers, thereby uniting individuals from various corners of the globe.
Known as Fête de la Musique, World Music Day is celebrated annually on June 21, celebrating music and musicians worldwide with daylong performances and concerts, among other activities.
It can be traced back to France in 1982, when the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, dedicated a day to the celebration of music. Composer Maurice Fleuret was roped in to organise a festival in Paris, thus laying the foundation for the celebration of World Music Day.
A different theory for its origins believes that the American writer Joel Cohen came up with the concept of holding an all-night music festival to commemorate the Summer Solstice.
On this World Music Day, we celebrate the soul-stirring power of music that unites, heals & inspires.
