Fire that killed four women at bar in Mandalay caused by short circuit: fire dept
YANGON: It is learned that a short circuit in a bar in Mandalay caused a fire that killed four women on Wednesday (May 28).
The Myanmar Fire Department received information that fire broke out at 9.47am at a bar in a 45ft × 25ft steel structure, one-storey building, located between 33rd and 34th streets, Kansana Mahi Ward, Chan Aye Tha San Township, as major repairs were ongoing to the earthquake-damaged building.
The flames spread to nearby soundproof panels and sofas when a short circuit occurred between the building's steel columns and the welding box.
The fire killed a 30-year-old woman (manager, resident of Tamu Township), a 21-year-old woman (receptionist, resident of Tagaung Township), a 26-year-old woman (bakery worker, resident of Pauk Township), and a 23-year-old woman (bakery worker, resident of Pauk Township) in the women's dormitory.
Sofas, soundproofing mats, and shop equipment were also burned, it was reported.
Ten fire engines, three water tenders, 30 firefighters, 40 auxiliary firefighters, and a group of local vehicles were deployed to extinguish the fire.
The fire was brought under control at 10am and extinguished at 10.08am.
The Chan Aye Tha San Township Police Station No. (8) has opened a case against the male welding team leader under Section 285/304 (A) of the IPC. - Eleven Media/ANN
