Thabiso Bapela's character promises to shake things up on 'Muvhango's' last season

Thabiso Bapela has joined the cast of 'Muvhango'. Image: Supplied Thabiso Bapela, this June will be making his debut on SABC 2's 'Muvhango'. Bapela takes on the character of Letlotlo Maribe, a role that invites reflection on love, masculinity, and emotional truth in a society still wrestling with what those words mean. 'I'm drawn to people who are trying to figure themselves out,' Bapela says. 'They might look like they've got it all together, but beneath the surface, something deeper is always at play. That's real. That's human.' Bapela doesn't offer spoilers when it comes to his newest character, but his perspective hints at what audiences might expect. 'He is bold. He walks into a room like he belongs there. 'But you start to realise, not everything he projects is as certain as it seems. There's something unresolved beneath all that confidence.' As an actor, Bapela is no stranger to Mzansi screens he has had roles on 'Gomora', 'Giyani - Land of Blood', 'The Queen' and 'Kings of Jo'burg'. His 'Muvhango' character Letlotlo arrives at a time when audiences are craving more than surface-level characters. 'He fits into this world, but he also shakes it a little,' Bapela reflects. 'And I think that's the point.' In a country where public conversations about gender, love, and emotional accountability are becoming more urgent, Letlotlo is a timely addition. His character does not represent perfection or resolution, but rather the honest messiness of figuring it out. 'He's a man of this moment,' Bapela explains. 'Someone who challenges the idea that being strong means having it all figured out. He is honest, sometimes to a fault. But deep down, he is still looking for acceptance.' Video Player is loading. 'I know what it's like to carry expectations, to try to make sense of how you were raised and what kind of man you want to become. Letlotlo is flawed, sure, but he's searching. And I think that's deeply human.' While some viewers may be drawn to the character's charm, others may find themselves confronting their own assumptions. And that, according to Bapela, is exactly what makes the role worth playing. 'This isn't just about entertainment. If it gets people talking or thinking differently about how to show up in relationships, then the character has done his work.' The long-running soap "Muvhango" is in its final season, ending in August, and will be saying goodbye to viewers with a bang. Bapela remarks that the show's success was achieved through blending indigenous traditions, European influences, and global trends, in resonant storytelling that is made by Africans, for Africans, with excellence. Bapela debuts as Letlotlo Maribe on Muvhango, Monday, June 2, on SABC 2. IOL Entertainment

Mzansi takes delivery of its 1st Brabus XLP 900 6×6 adventure

Serving as a custom-built collaboration between the German tuning specialists at Brabus and their local South African representative, RACE!, Mzansi now has its first XLP 900 6×6. According to the local representatives, the story of this particular vehicle started right here. It began its life as a regular Manufaktur classic grey non-metallic W465 Mercedes-AMG G63, ordered through a local Mercedes-Benz dealership. From there, it was shipped off to Brabus headquarters in Bottrop, Germany, where the extensive transformation took place. Looking for a new or used Mercedes-Benz? Find it here with CARmag! What arrived back in South Africa is something truly unique. The original engine underwent a significant upgrade, now an enlarged 4.5l displacement unit. This powerhouse produces 662kW and a colossal 1 250N.m of torque. Despite its 4.5t weight, this means it can hit 100km/h in just 5.2 seconds, with a top speed limited to 210km/h. It's a level of performance that's hard to reconcile with its sheer size and off-road capabilities. This isn't a cheap endeavour; the build alone was a one million Euro (approximately R20m) project before factoring in the significant import duties and taxes for South Africa, as confirmed by RACE! Also mentioned was a notable increase in interest from potential new clients, suggesting that this won't be the last Brabus XLP 900 6×6 we see on South African roads. It really highlights the growing appetite for these ultra-exclusive, custom-engineered vehicles among enthusiasts locally. Presley Chweneyagae: ‘He was every mother's son, every girl's funny lover, and everyone's best friend'

Chweneyagae embodied God-given talent, said Phathutshedzo Makwarela, executive producer of The River and Cobrizi. DStv, the broadcaster which was home to late actor Presley Chweneyagae in recent years, has paid tribute to the beloved actor. 'He was every mother's son, every girl's funny lover, and everyone's best friend,' said CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice, Nomsa Philiso. Chweneyagae passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 40. His talent agency and management team at Moonyeenn Lee Associates (MLA) confirmed his death. 'His characters felt like family,' she shared. 'Through characters like Cobra on The River, and most recently on Mzansi Magic's Cobrizi, he didn't just entertain — he made us laugh, made us care, and helped us understand the people behind the stories. His work brought heart and humanity to every role.' Chweneyagae's performances on The River made him more endearing to Mzansi as the hilarious older brother with an English twang. 'His legacy lives on in the stories he helped bring to life. He was part of some of DStv's most loved productions, and his performances will continue to resonate. We will miss him dearly,' Philiso said.
