Pattullo Bridge closing northbound for 4 nights this week and next
The under-construction deck of the new Pattullo Bridge is seen in this image from the project's X account. ( More overnight closures are planned for the Pattullo Bridge this week and next, TransLink announced Wednesday. The span will be closed northbound from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday this week, as well as next Wednesday and Thursday, July 2 and 3. The southbound lanes will remain open to all traffic during the closures, and pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles will still be able to use the bridge going north, TransLink said. 'These closures are needed to safely install an expansion joint connecting the new bridge deck to the bridge approach in Surrey,' the transit agency said in a news release. 'Construction equipment will be positioned near both northbound lanes on the existing bridge, making a full closure necessary.' Drivers who would normally take the Pattullo Bridge northbound during the closures are encouraged to use the Port Mann and Alex Fraser bridges instead. The N19 NightBus will be rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges between New Westminster and Scott Road SkyTrain stations, according to TransLink. 'Rerouted drivers and transit users should plan for up to 30 minutes of additional travel time,' the agency said. A new, four-lane bridge is expected to open some time later this year, at which point the existing bridge will be removed. The estimated cost of the project is $1.637 billion.
