Ryan Davenport shines as Pilots secure 53rd consecutive win

SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — LSU Shreveport leadoff hitter Ryan Davenport drove in five runs as the Pilots won their 53rd straight game 15-4 over Johnson University in the NAIA Regional at Pilot Field. The Pilots are now one win away from a trip to Lewiston, Idaho and the NAIA World Series. LSUS scored four runs in the top of the 2nd inning, capped by a bases loaded, bases clearing double by Davenport just over the centerfielder's head. The Pilots added six runs in the 3rd inning, including an RBI infield single by Davenport. 'Ryan's gritty. He's the type of guy we talk to him every year, you're not designed to start here because he's 150 pounds and 6 foot but he's at the top of our lineup for a reason,' said Pilots head coach Brad Neffendorf. 'He'll get in there, dig his feet in and puts together good AB's and he's hit over .400 the entire year. He's been a great guy at the top for us.' 'I was seeing it well, It was a good day at Pilots park,' said Davenport. 'When the pitchers are pitching like that it's really easy to hit behind them. They threw a lot of strikes got a lot of guys out so us on the offensive side we just work behind them.' Four different players had multiple hits in the win for the Pilots. LSU Shreveport will play either Mid-American Christian, Ottawa or Johnson on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for a spot in the World Series. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
