Muni will be free for NBA-All Star, Lunar New Year weekend, SFMTA announces
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — With thousands of people expected to descend on San Francisco this weekend for the NBA All-Stars and Lunar New Year Parade, officials are urging people to leave their cars at home. To that end, the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency has announced that Muni will be free on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16. 'Fares will be free citywide to help you get to the parade,' SFMTA said on its website. Although, SF's iconic cable cars are excluded from the free service. NBA All-Star Game 2025 in San Francisco: Street closures and reroutes to know For those attending the parade, SFMTA is also adding two hours of free parking at the Portsmouth Square Garage at 733 Kearny Street in Chinatown. For those taking Muni to the parade, options include the J Church, K Ingleside, L Taraval, M Ocean View, and N Judah. Those taking Muni to All-Star events at the Chase Center can take the T Third Street line, according to SFMTA. On Tuesday, the Phoenix Suns (26-26) host the Memphis Grizzlies (35-17) at the Footprint Center, and if you're wondering how to catch the action live, you've come to the right place. The Suns are coming off a 122-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday without Kevin Durant (ankle), Bradley Beal (toe) and Grayson Allen (knee). They got to within five points early in the third quarter, but the Nuggets went on a 36-21 run to finish the period and put the game out of reach. Heavy rain making its way to Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Heavy rain, high winds and possible thunderstorms are forecasted to move into the Bay Area by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Clouds gradually increase throughout Tuesday, leading to a slight chance of some isolated showers overnight Wednesday, mainly toward the coast. On Wednesday night, the rain begins to kick into gear, and it will stay in the region through Thursday into Friday. Portions of the Bay Area are expected to receive up to 4 inches of rain through Friday this week, with the North Bay seeing up to 3 inches, weather officials said. Higher elevations could get up to 8 inches. NBA All-Star Game 2025 in San Francisco: Street closures and reroutes to know A severe weather outlook was issued for 4 a.m. Thursday through 4 a.m. Friday due to a 10% or greater chance of isolated thunderstorms through the Bay Area, according to NWS. Winds on Thursday and Friday can reach gusts of up to 60 mph along the coast and ridgelines. For other regions of the Bay Area, southwesterly winds with gusts up to 40 mph are possible. From Thursday night through Friday, forecasters warn of dangerous surf conditions with breaking waves up to 30 feet. Officials advise people to stay off jetties, piers and rocks at the coast.
