Temps continue to climb, challenging heat records by the weekend with 90s and 100s on deck

SALT LAKE CITY () — Happy Wednesday, Utah! Today will be even warmer than yesterday across the state, with daytime highs in the upper 80s for most valleys while St. George climbs into the upper 90s. Expect partly cloudy skies with a few isolated thunderstorms in mountainous regions, but there's a slight chance that some valleys see a thunderstorm as well. Temperatures continue to rise through the next few days. Friday's highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s for valleys, and St. George is forecasted to hit the first triple-digit temperature of the year! By the weekend, we'll be getting into record territory across the state. Most of us will see mid-90s this weekend and the hot spots will be in the low to mid-100s. On Sunday, northern Utah holds in the 90s, but southern Utah will cool back down to 80s for most and mid-90s for lower Washington County. While the majority of the state stays dry through the remainder of the week, each day brings a chance of isolated mountain thunderstorms with the heat of the day, but nothing widespread or long-lasting. However, unsettled weather revs up across the whole state on Monday as a system swoops in with cooler, soggier air and scattered thunderstorms.
