Small Plane Crashes in Boca Raton, Multiple People Feared Dead

Tragedy has occurred in Boca Raton.
A small plane crashed near the Florida city's airport April 11 in the area of Military Trail and Glades Road, shutting down traffic on an interstate highway. With witnesses reporting bodies at the scene to NBC News South Florida, multiple people are feared dead in the crash.
'N. Military Trail is closed between NW 19th St. and Butts Rd. due to small aircraft crash,' the Boca Raton Police wrote in a post on X mid-morning on April 11. 'I-95 overpass at Glades Rd. is also closed eastbound and westbound. Avoid the Area.'
Witnesses at the scene told NBC News South Florida that they saw the plane flying low, and felt their building shake upon the crash's impact. The aircraft, per the witnesses, caught fire and caused 'plumes of smoke' in the air. A charred car was also spotted at the crash site, per a chopper report by CBS News, but authorities have not been able to confirm how many people were affected by the event.

The Boca Raton crash comes less than a day after another unfortunate aircraft incident in New York. A helicopter crashed into the Hudson River between New Jersey and lower Manhattan around 3:15 p.m. on April 10, authorities told NBC News.
A witness of the crash, Avi Rakesh, noted that the helicopter's blade fell off, causing it to fall from the sky.
'I don't know what happened to the tail, but it just straight up dropped,' Rakesh told NBC News. 'It dropped feet away from Holland Tunnel.'
Law enforcement later confirmed that six people—tech mogul Agustín Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal and their three young children, as well as the chopper's pilot—were killed in the crash.
Earlier that evening New York City Mayor confirmed there were no survivors from the horrific event and expressed his condolences.
'We're praying for the families,' he said at a press conference April 10, also emphasizing he had 'gratitude to the rescuers and the courage that was displayed and their dedication.'
An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board is currently underway to find the reason behind the crash.
