Another one bites the dust: Isetan at Tampines Mall will shut its doors in November 2025

We've recently bid farewell to local fashion label The Closet Lover and Japanese retailer NBC Stationery & Gifts – and now, another name is joining the list. Beloved Japanese department store Isetan will be shuttering its Tampines Mall outlet after 30 long years of operation. A familiar name to many Singaporeans, Isetan has been a go-to for everything from homeware and groceries to clothing and footwear. The news was announced via Tampines Mall's official Facebook page, revealing that the store will close its doors in November 2025. No reason was given for the closure, and there's been no word on which tenant might take its place. This isn't the first Isetan outlet to close in recent years – the Westgate store closed in 2020, followed by the Parkway Parade branch in 2022. Once the Tampines Mall outlet ceases operations, only two Isetan department stores will remain in Singapore: at Shaw House and NEX. Despite this, there's plenty to look forward to, including the opening of the new lifestyle hub Geneo , the lease extension of Pearl's Hill Terrace , and the upcoming launch of Weave at Resorts World Sentosa . Books Kinokuniya will be opening a new outlet at Raffles City in August 2025

Call it the plot twist of the year. After announcing the upcoming closure of the beloved NBC Stationery & Gifts at Raffles City – much to the despair of devoted fans – Japanese bookstore group Books Kinokuniya has just revealed that it will be opening a brand new outlet, within the very same mall, no less. Kinokuniya will not be taking over its sister brand NBC's former space, and will instead be setting up shop at what used to be Challenger on Level 3 of the mall. Concurrently, Books Kinonkuniya at Takashimaya is downsizing to make space for a café, but the good news is is that some of its book collection, along with its iconic navy blue shelves, will be migrating over to the new outlet at City Hall. Hoardings for the new Books Kinokuniya at Raffles City are already up, and it's slated to welcome bookworms on an unspecified date in August 2025. In the meantime, check out our compilation of the best bookstores in Singapore which includes many smaller, independently run names.
