Tony Vitello details Brayden Krenzel's 'nasty stuff' against Wake Forest

Tony Vitello details Brayden Krenzel's 'nasty stuff' against Wake Forest No. 14 national seed Tennessee (46-17) advanced to a super regional after defeating Wake Forest (39-22), 11-5, on Monday in a NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional final. Freshman right-handed pitcher Brayden Krenzel (3-0) appeared in relief for the Vols. He pitched 2.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts, earning his third win in 2025. Krenzel totaled 55 pitches, including 33 strikes, against 11 batters. In the fourth inning, the 6-foot-3, 214-pound freshman pitched a one-two-three inning against Wake Forest. Dalton Wentz struck out looking, Luke Costello grounded out to shortstop and Austin Hawke struck out swinging. More: Brayden Krenzel by the numbers in 2025 regular season 'It reminded me of a couple of his other outings early in the year," Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello said of Krenzel's pitching performance. "ETSU was one. I know it didn't come out the way we wanted. That was the one nonconference game we lost, but they had a great team this year. He came in and changed the whole tune and he did the same thing today. There's been a couple of them like that. At Alabama he was like that. Alabama was in there competing, but on day three in Tuscaloosa it turned into a one-sided game when he got out there. "These guys know what they're facing, the two to my left, (Andrew Fischer and Manny Marin). It's nasty stuff. It's just about him having the presence that he had today, which he's done several times." Krenzel has appeared in 19 games, including two starts, for the Vols in 2025. He has recorded 41 strikeouts in 32.1 innings. Tennessee will next face No. 3 national seed Arkansas (46-13) in the Fayetteville Super Regional. The Vols played their regular-season series finale at Arkansas. Krenzel pitched 2.2 innings against the Razorbacks on May 17. He totaled five strikeouts against 13 batters in relief. Tony Vitello shares emotional take after Tennessee beats Wake Forest in Knoxville finale

Tennessee baseball fans saw a big win on Monday night in Knoxville. But what made the night even more special was what head coach Tony Vitello shared after the game. His words gave people a deeper look into the team's heart, effort, and belief. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The game was exciting, but what came after left a lasting impression. Tony Vitello praises Tennessee's full team effort in regional win It was on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, Knoxville, Tennessee, where the Vols triumphed against Wake Forest with an emphatic 11-5 win in Game 7 of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional. The victory advanced the team to the Super Regionals, where they now face off against Arkansas. The energy in the stadium was intense, and the players gave their all. Tony Vitello, who is in his eighth year as Tennessee's head coach, spoke to reporters after the win. He said the crowd's energy was different that night. 'It's tough to describe the energy that was in the building tonight,' Vitello said. 'It was a little bit different. Maybe they listened to Andrew Fischer.' Fischer had earlier asked fans to 'double the noise,' and it seemed like the crowd responded. Vitello also spoke about how proud he was of his team's performance. He said each player did something they had struggled with during the season. From the first batter to the last, everyone contributed. The coach pointed out that this was one of the most complete efforts the team had shown all year. Also Read: Nate Snead and pitching staff show commitment and unity Tony Vitello also gave credit to Tennessee's pitching staff. One standout name was Nate Snead. He threw nearly 100 pitches and showed no signs of slowing down. Vitello said, 'Snead was willing to go 100 pitches today. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now I feel for the guys who didn't get action because everybody was available.' The coach also mentioned Marcus Phillips and Ben Martin, who were ready to jump in if needed. Though they didn't play, their spirit stood out. Vitello praised pitching coach Frank Anderson, saying he pushes the players hard but also earns their trust. 'There's a lot of love between the pitchers and coach A,' he said. He added that many of the pitchers don't just want to throw for themselves. They want to do it for their teammates. This team-first mindset was something Vitello deeply appreciated.

Tony Vitello recaps win over Wake Forest baseball in Knoxville Regional

Tony Vitello recaps win over Wake Forest baseball in Knoxville Regional No. 14 national seed Tennessee (46-17) defeated No. 2 regional seed Wake Forest (39-22), 11-5, on Monday in Game 7 of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional. The Vols played their final game of the season at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Tennessee will next face No. 3 national seed Arkansas (46-13) in the Fayetteville Super Regional. Eighth-year head coach Tony Vitello recapped the Vols' win over Wake Forest on Monday. "It's tough to describe the energy that was in the building tonight," Vitello said. "It was a little bit different. Maybe they listened to (Andrew) Fischer. I don't know if the numbers were bigger because it was a Monday, but the energy was insane. Our guys' response to being down was equally insane. The biggest thing was guys doing things they struggled throughout the year doing well, one through nine, and then our guys that are just willing to take the ball. "It is a weird deal on this staff to have that many guys that want the ball, no matter what day it is or what the circumstances are. (Nate) Snead was willing to go 100 pitches today. I feel for the guys that didn't get action because everybody was available. Marcus Phillips, it would have had to be like, I don't know, even (Ben) Martin was joking around about being out there. I know it's in a unique way because Frank (Anderson) is pretty hard on these guys and he gets results out of it. There's a lot of trust and a lot of love there between the pitchers and coach A, and of course, there's other people that that help out, too. Maybe that's got something to do with it, that they want to pitch for the boys and not just themselves, which I greatly appreciate and benefited from today as well."
