No. 7 Baylor's comeback bid falls short in Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinal
KANSAS CITY, MO (FOX 44) — Baylor Men's Basketball battled to pull within one possession with V.J. Edgecombe even getting a chance to win it at the buzzer but his potential game-winning three was too strong as Texas Tech escaped with a 76-74 win in the Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinal on Thursday night.
Led by Norchad Omier's game-high 29 points, Baylor rallied from as much as a 15-point second-half deficit to cut the deficit to single digits and stay within striking distance down the stretch.
The Bears didn't allow a field goal for the final 7:26 of the second half, holding Texas Tech to 0-10 shooting during that stretch.
A clutch three by Jayden Nunn cut the Red Raider lead down to two before Texas Tech extended it back to four. Rob Wright III brought the deficit back to two on a lay in with five seconds remaining, forcing Tech to ice it from the free throw line.
However, Texas Tech's Christian Anderson missed both of his two shots which gave Baylor a chance. Down two with no timeouts, V.J. Edgecombe raced up the court, throwing up a one-legged three-point runner that hit too strong off the glass and fell off the mark to end Baylor's time in Kansas City.
Baylor awaits their seeding in the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday on March 16th at 5 p.m.
