Strong storms and damaging winds possible in parts of Miami-Dade, Broward in the afternoon
South Florida is bracing for potentially strong storms this afternoon and evening, including heavy rainfall and localized flooding in some areas. The NEXT Weather Team had issued NEXT Weather Alert Day for Friday due to the potential for strong to severe afternoon storms. NEXT Weather meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez says the most active period for stormy weather will be from noon through 8 p.m. The main concern will be storms which could contain damaging wind, hail, and isolated heavy downpours. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Miami-Dade and Broward at a marginal risk for isolated strong storms on Friday. The heating of the day will help fuel those storms. Friday afternoon highs will be around 90 degrees. While the risk level is marginal, the lowest on the SPC's five-tier scale, residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially during peak storm times. Outdoor plans and commutes could be impacted by sudden downpours or localized severe conditions. The heat continues through Memorial Day Weekend with afternoon highs near 90 degrees and "feels like" temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. The chance of rain is 30% for scattered showers.

Boston weather forecast maps for this weekend show storm threat before possible pattern change
May has arrived and the weekends are becoming more precious and important. But the weather forecast for this weekend in the Boston area is complicated. April weekends were mostly rough and wet. We seem to have gotten ourselves into one of those rainy weekend patterns (see 2023). In Massachusetts, your good (or bad) fortune with the weather this weekend will largely depend upon timing and location. Friday forecast for Massachusetts You will notice a difference in the feel outside almost right away on Friday. The dry and comfy airmass from Thursday will be on the way out thanks to an early morning warm frontal passage. Some showers and a few thunderstorms will roll through before dawn on Friday. Behind those, a much warmer and more humid airmass rolls in. It will likely take much of Friday morning for most of the area to "adjust" to this new airmass and for clouds to scour out. By midday and afternoon, there will be a good deal of sunshine and a summer-like feel in most of the region. Highs will climb to 80 degrees across MetroWest and up through southern New Hampshire. It will feel much different over southeastern Mass, where there will be areas of fog and cooler temperatures thanks to a south-southwesterly wind. WBZ-TV graphic CBS Boston Finally, there is a slight risk of an isolated, late-day shower or storm, mainly in areas well northwest of Boston. Saturday Boston weather forecast The WBZ Weather Team is highlighting Saturday as a NEXT Weather Alert Day. With a warm and humid airmass in place, there will be areas of low clouds and fog early on Saturday, particularly over southeastern Massachusetts. In most areas, that will burn off during Saturday morning but, over south coastal Rhode Island and far south/southeastern Massachusetts, the fog will stick around most of the day. Where the sunshine does win out, temperatures will soar to near 80 degrees once again. With dewpoints in the mid 60s, there will also be a muggy feel to the air. Showers and thunderstorms will erupt during the mid to late afternoon well northwest of Boston. The axis of storms will be semi-stationary which could lead to localized flooding. Greatest areas of concern include: The Berkshires, northern Worcester county, northern Middlesex county, northern Essex county, southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire. WBZ-TV graphic CBS Boston Boston weather forecast for Sunday This one is tricky. There will be a frontal boundary in the area on Sunday. If it stays up in New Hampshire and Vermont, Sunday will be another warm and humid day and also mainly storm-free. If it meanders south a bit and into the Boston area, Sunday would feature more clouds, scattered storms and cooler temperatures. Right now, we are leaning towards a cooler and cloudier day on Sunday with highs mainly in the 60s and some scattered showers. If you have outdoor plans, I would absolutely stay tuned to updated forecasts. WBZ-TV graphic CBS Boston Weather pattern change Typically, if you want to mix up and change a weather pattern you need some sort of big atmospheric event. Well, we may see exactly that early next week. Models are forecasting a large area of low pressure at upper levels in our atmosphere. It appears this may get "cutoff" from the main west-east flow of the jet stream and bring several days of rainfall to parts of the Midwest and Northeast. Depending on the exact setup, it is possible that we could see several days and rounds of rainfall in New England next week. While this may sound miserable (and it very well might be), it may end up leading to a pattern change in the longer term. WBZ-TV graphic CBS Boston

Storms move offshore, flood advisory set to expire in Broward
A flood advisory for Broward County is set to expire at 4 p.m. Tuesday as the final band of storms weakened and moved offshore, bringing an end to an active weather day across South Florida. The CBS News Miami weather team had issued a NEXT Weather Alert Day for Tuesday due to the threat of strong storms and localized flooding, but with the front clearing the region, the forecast turns more favorable heading into the second half of the week. Though scattered storms brought brief heavy downpours, most areas saw only modest rainfall totals, generally between half an inch to an inch. With pockets of sunshine now breaking through, the CBS News Miami team of meteorologists said a few additional showers or isolated storms are possible into the evening, but the worst of the weather appears to be over. The line of storms that impacted the region Tuesday was associated with a cold front pushing through the state. As the front continues south into the Florida Keys later tonight, cloud cover will begin to clear and a drier, cooler air mass will arrive from the north. Lows are expected to dip into the mid to upper 60s by early Wednesday morning, offering some relief from recent humidity. Daytime highs Wednesday will be near normal, in the low 80s, with just a slight chance for isolated showers. The cooler pattern continues into Thursday with another seasonably cool morning, followed by highs in the low 80s and the potential for spotty showers. Conditions are expected to turn warmer and drier by Friday, ahead of a second cold front arriving this weekend. That front will bring another shot of cooler air, with Saturday and Sunday mornings forecast to start in the low to mid 60s and even upper 50s in some inland areas. Highs over the weekend will range from the upper 70s to low 80s under mostly sunny skies.

Severe storms to bring heavy rain, damaging winds to Philadelphia region Wednesday. Here's the forecast.
Wednesday is a NEXT Weather Alert Day for the possibility of heavy rain and severe storms in the Philadelphia region. Gusty southwest winds will push our temperatures to the low 60s, and by around 2 p.m., a strong cold front will move into our western zones. This front will bring strong to severe storms with pockets of heavy rain. The state of Delaware and parts of South Jersey and Pennsylvania are in a slight (level 2) risk for severe weather on Wednesday, while the rest of our region is in a marginal (level 1) risk. The biggest threat with any severe storm locally will be damaging straight-line winds, although we cannot rule out the potential for an isolated tornado. This line of storms will also bring the likelihood of heavy rainfall, with as much as three-quarters of an inch to 1.5 inches falling over the course of just a few hours, leading to possible ponding and road spray during the Wednesday evening commute. While the region does need a good soaking rain, the timing is less than ideal. Philadelphia weather forecast for rest of the week Behind the storm on Thursday, it's seasonably chilly with a gusty wind that will make it feel much colder. On Friday, we hover near 50 with sunshine and less wind. Rain showers are once again possible on Saturday night, and there is even a chance for a snow shower as colder air moves in. Don't forget, daylight saving time begins Sunday morning, so flip the clocks ahead one hour Saturday night and change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Here's the 7-day forecast: Thursday: Windy. High 51, low 47. Friday: Some sun. High 51, low 32. Saturday: A shower. High 52, low 37. Sunday: Colder. High 47, low 31. Monday: Warming up. High 59, low 28. Tuesday: Nice and sunny. High 60, low 36. NEXT Weather Radars Hourly Forecast

Mild and mostly quiet for Sunday with comfortable temperatures, possible stray showers
The NEXT Weather team is tracking a mild and mostly quiet Sunday as comfortable morning temperatures give way to a mild and partly sunny afternoon. Afternoon highs remain in the mid to upper 70s. While the NEXT Weather team is monitoring a mostly dry Sunday, stray showers are possible for the morning and early afternoon, especially close to the coastline. Any showers that do develop on Sunday will be brief and non-severe. If you're heading out to the beach, the NEXT Weather team monitors a high rip current risk and a high UV index. There are no alerts for boaters out on the Atlantic or in the Florida Keys. The NEXT Weather team will be monitoring a messy Monday as a Gulf storm moves in from the west early Monday morning. A NEXT Weather Alert Day has been issued for Monday due to the potential for strong storms containing strong gusts, hail, and heavy downpours. Rain is expected to grow more widespread during the midday hours on Monday and could lead to flooding concerns as rainfall estimates range from one to three inches, with isolated higher totals possible. Scattered showers and storms will continue for Monday afternoon and potentially continue for the first half of Tuesday. A drier weather pattern arrives Tuesday afternoon and continues for most of the week as afternoon highs hover around the upper 70s.
