Strong storms, wind and hail threaten Broward and Miami-Dade Thursday and Friday

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded Broward County and the Miami-Dade metro area to a marginal risk for isolated strong storms on Thursday and Friday afternoons. In response, the NEXT Weather team has issued NEXT Weather Alert Days, for both days. The main threats will be storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail, primarily during the afternoon and early evening hours. While the risk level is marginal, the lowest on the SPC's five-tier scale, residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially during peak storm times. Outdoor plans and commutes could be impacted by sudden downpours or localized severe alert comes as South Florida continues to deal with heat and high humidity, which could fuel storm development later in the week.

Warm and dry across South Florida with seasonable highs

Thursday got off to a comfortable start with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s across South Florida. It will be warm and mainly dry in the afternoon as highs climb to the low 80s. The breeze will build out of the east, gusts could reach 15 to 20 miles per hour. There is a moderate risk of rip currents along the Atlantic beaches. There are no alerts or advisories for boaters over the Atlantic waters and the Keys waters. Friday morning will be mild with temperatures in the low 70s. Highs will remain close to seasonal, in the low 80s, with plenty of sunshine. It will be windy at times with gusts up to 25 to 30 miles per hour. The NEXT Weather team is closely monitoring weather conditions for the potential of high fire danger due to the stronger winds and low humidity. Much of Broward and parts of Miami-Dade are still dealing with severe drought. Although rain is needed, it will stay mainly dry through the weekend. Lows will stay in the low 70s. Highs will rise to the low to mid 80s. Easter Sunday will be mostly sunny and mostly dry as the chance of rain stays low. We'll enjoy a pleasant breeze but it will not be as blustery. Early to middle of next week the chance of rain is 10% with the potential for only isolated showers. It will be warmer with highs in the mid 80s.

Mild and mostly quiet for Sunday with comfortable temperatures, possible stray showers

The NEXT Weather team is tracking a mild and mostly quiet Sunday as comfortable morning temperatures give way to a mild and partly sunny afternoon. Afternoon highs remain in the mid to upper 70s. While the NEXT Weather team is monitoring a mostly dry Sunday, stray showers are possible for the morning and early afternoon, especially close to the coastline. Any showers that do develop on Sunday will be brief and non-severe. If you're heading out to the beach, the NEXT Weather team monitors a high rip current risk and a high UV index. There are no alerts for boaters out on the Atlantic or in the Florida Keys. The NEXT Weather team will be monitoring a messy Monday as a Gulf storm moves in from the west early Monday morning. A NEXT Weather Alert Day has been issued for Monday due to the potential for strong storms containing strong gusts, hail, and heavy downpours. Rain is expected to grow more widespread during the midday hours on Monday and could lead to flooding concerns as rainfall estimates range from one to three inches, with isolated higher totals possible. Scattered showers and storms will continue for Monday afternoon and potentially continue for the first half of Tuesday. A drier weather pattern arrives Tuesday afternoon and continues for most of the week as afternoon highs hover around the upper 70s.
