Commanders' Kingsbury Lays Expectations for Jayden Daniels

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The pressure is on for Jayden Daniels heading into the 2025 NFL season. It's good pressure, considering he's coming off a strong rookie campaign, which ended with the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year trophy in his possession. Already seen as an NFL Pro Bowler, who came one game short of making the Super Bowl in his first NFL season, Daniels is already viewed as one of the game's top quarterbacks. Now, his offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, is entering the 2025 NFL with even higher expectations. "He is very highly motivated, and that's always exciting for the organization," Kingsbury told reporters at OTAs, via ESPN. "Just watching him move around, he's not thinking as much, he's playing fast and letting his natural gifts kind of take over, and that's what we want to see. I expect him to take a big jump." For Daniels, year two expectations might be more challenging to meet than those of the typical sophomore passer. If the Commanders are expecting a big jump for Daniels, then they are probably thinking about a potential MVP big, which is a major ask for a player who doesn't turn 25 until late December. Jayden Daniels #5 of the Washington Commanders looks to throw the ball during the third quarter against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Divisional Playoff at Ford Field on January 18, 2025 in Detroit, course, for Daniels, that comes with the territory of finding early success after the team invested such a high pick in him. Coming out of LSU, Daniels was viewed as a potential top pick. Although he wasn't first-overall like many franchise quarterbacks who came before him, Daniels was snatched at No. 2 by the Commanders. During his first season under center, Daniels was an immediate starter, seeing the field for 17 games. He completed nearly 70 percent of his passes, throwing for over 3,500 yards. He threw for 25 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. Along with his passing, Daniels stood out as a rusher as well. With nearly 150 attempts, Daniels took off for 891 yards and scored six touchdowns. He finished the 2024 NFL season with 31 total touchdowns and 4,459 yards. Jayden Daniels: A rookie season for the history books. 🏆 In recognition of being named the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, the Hall of Fame has received a full uniform from Jayden Daniels of the Washington @Commanders. Daniels took the league by storm in his debut… — Pro Football Hall of Fame (@ProFootballHOF) May 8, 2025 The Commanders found success while being led by their young star. After going 12-5, Washington cracked a spot in the Wild Card round. They ended up upsetting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before waltzing into Detroit Lions territory and taking down the NFC's No. 1 seed. The Commanders felt good about their chances of advancing to Super Bowl LIX, but they struggled on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. The playoff run ended on a low note, but Daniels shined during his first postseason by throwing for 822 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception. Washington did what it could to help Daniels see a boost in year two. Over the offseason, they added another weapon in the mix with former San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel. It might take some time for the two to get comfortable throughout a long season, but the Commanders are looking forward to seeing what Daniels can bring to the table with one full season under his belt.

NFL long snapper escorted from church in heated scene over porn accusation against priest

An NFL long snapper was escorted out of an Ohio church by police during a contentious scene over the weekend as parishioners sought answers about rumors and accusations that one of the priests had viewed pornography on a church computer. Fourteen-year NFL veteran Jake McQuaide found himself in the middle of the fray on Saturday at Our Lady of the Visitation in Green Township when he demanded answers from Archdiocese of Cincinnati Chancellor Jason Williams, who was addressing allegations against priest Martin Bachman. A member of the church, Todd Zureick, said they saw images from a laptop that contained 'thumbnails to pornography sites and links to multiple virtual reality role-playing sites involving pornography, sexual assault, group sex, rape, and occult themes,' WCPO reported. 5 Jake McQuaide of the Detroit Lions leaves the field following a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Divisional Playoff game at Ford Field on January 21, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. Getty Images The Enquirer reported Zureick filed a complaint with the archdiocese earlier in the year. On Saturday, Williams read a letter from Archbishop Robert Casey that shot down the allegations. 'These have been investigated, and no wrongdoing — either criminally or ecclesiastically — has been substantiated … consequently, like gossip, the spreading of rumors is sinful, and we should all work to overcome this tendency of our fallen human nature,' the letter said. It was at this point that Cincinnati native McQuaide, 37, stepped in and demanded answers about the pornography allegations. 5 Jake McQuaide was escorted out of Our Lady of the Visitation in Green Township by police amid allegations of a priest having used a church computer to look at porn. We want to put these rumors to rest. Can you answer this for me … fact or fiction,' McQuaide said, according to WCPO. When someone at the altar tried to tell the long snapper that it wasn't the right time for this interaction, McQuaide, who said he saw the images of the computer, reportedly replied: 'I'm sorry, sir, this is the time and the place. I will stand up. … Did the priest use our parish computer to look at pornography? … true or false. … I am not trespassing. 'You can look at pornography at your house, but you cannot do it here.' 5 McQuaide stood to ask questions in a contentious scene at the church. Local 12 via Facebook/Our Lady of the Visitation McQuaide, a two-time Pro Bowler, was escorted out by Green Township police officers, who were asked to be at the church in case of disruptions Capt. Mitch Hill told The Enquirer that McQuiade was not detained nor charged with a crime. Archbishop Casey said Bachman has a planned sabbatical from July that is not related to the allegations. Police, according to multiple reports, have also said they have not found that any member of the clergy from the church has committed crimes. 5 Detroit Lions long snapper Jake McQuaide (43) prepares to snap the ball during an NFL football game between the Detroit Lions and the Denver Broncos in Detroit, Michigan USA, on Saturday, December 16, 2023. McQuiade, a free agent, spent time on the Vikings' and Dolphins' active rosters last year. Eagles' Dallas Goedert Speaks Out After Rumor-Filled Offseason

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Philadelphia Eagles went through a very busy offseason. They lost some key pieces from last year's Super Bowl run and were widely expected to trade another. Dallas Goedert was mentioned in trade rumors all offseason long. At one point, it seemed extremely likely that he would be on his way out of town. However, he's still on the roster with OTA's getting underway. It's a bit of a surprise, but Goedert has been an important piece for the offense over the years. Bringing him back always made sense if they could afford to do it. Now, the tight end is speaking out about his experience during the offseason. "Just kind of sat on the couch and stared at the TV blankly like, 'What's going to happen?' I've been (through) seven offseasons, and this is the first time I had to deal with it, so I'm pretty lucky. But it was an interesting feeling for sure." Not only did he share his feelings while the trade rumors swirled around him, he also spoke out with honesty about his contract situation. "I've been very blessed to sign a good contract here (in 2021)," he said. "I wouldn't want to play for less, you know what I mean? I feel like I know my value. I feel like the Eagles know my value. And just finding something that I was OK with, a number that I felt excited about, that my time was worth it. There's a threshold that I felt like I deserved. And we were able to get there." Last season, Goedert played in just 10 games. He caught 42 passes for 496 yards and two touchdowns. In 2023, he recorded 59 receptions for 592 yards and three scores. He'll be valuable for Jalen Hurts to have in 2025 as well. As the Eagles prepare to try and defend their championship from last season, having as many hands on deck as they can will be important. During the offseason, they lost pieces like defensive lineman Milton Williams, defensive end Josh Sweat, cornerback Darius Slay, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, and linebacker Oren Burks. Hopefully, Goedert can prove Philadelphia right for keeping him in town. It was a stressful offseason, but now it's time to get back to work. Early indications give one Browns quarterback a leg up for starting job

The quarterback question will be a big one for the Browns as they enter the 2025 season with a plethora of options at the position. But one Browns insider believes that one quarterback in Cleveland already has the upper hand in the battle for the starter role. Mary Kay Cabot views Kenny Pickett as the favorite to win the job among a group of candidates that includes, Joe Flacco, Deshaun Watson and rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. 'It's a tough call before we've even seen the first practice of organized team activities, but I know Kenny Pickett heads in as the frontrunner to win the starting job at the outset. He'll take the initial first-team reps in OTAs and probably the mandatory minicamp, and it seems like it's his job to try to keep for now,' Cabot reported. 3 Kenny Pickett #7 of the Philadelphia Eagles warms up before the game against the Los Angeles Rams during the NFC Divisional Playoff at Lincoln Financial Field on January 19, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Getty Images Pickett saw limited playing time with the Eagles last season, appearing in five games while completing 59.5 percent of his passes and throwing for 291 yards. Prior to that, he played two seasons in Pittsburgh, during which he threw for over 2,000 yards in 2022 and 2023. But the Browns complicated their QB situation further by drafting Gabriel and then taking Sanders in the later rounds, creating quite the stir, especially with so much attention already on Sanders and the Browns clearly needing a quarterback of the future. 3 Cleveland Browns tight end Brenden Bates (82) and quarterback Dillon Gabriel (5) take a break during the NFL football team's rookie minicamp in Berea, Ohio, Saturday, May 10, 2025. AP 3 Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, front, walks off the field after the NFL football team's rookie minicamp. AP For the time being, one of the veterans will be holding the reins at QB, with the early indications pointing to Pickett, though Cabot did suggest that Flacco would make a strong case as well. 'Flacco's big arm will dazzle in camp, and it will be hard to keep him off the field, especially because he'll fighting so hard to win the battle,' she wrote. One thing that does seem sure is that Watson seems to be the one vet that isn't expected to get the starter's job.
