Packers' Matt LaFleur Addresses Jaire Alexander's Health And Future With Team

The Green Bay Packers have a talented roster from top to bottom, and it was one of the reasons they made back-to-back playoff appearances, including a crushing 48-32 road win over the number two seeded Dallas Cowboys in the 2023 Wildcard Round, while being the youngest team in the league. Still, Green Bay had room to improve its roster heading into the 2025 season. They drafted wide receivers Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, edge rushers Collin Olliver and Barryn Sorrell, and offensive lineman Anthony Belton. However, even with those additions, the most significant boost the team can get is if Jaire Alexander remains with the team. Advertisement The Packers have internally expressed frustration with Jaire Alexander's inability to stay on the field. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the team explored trade options involving the star cornerback in February. However, as reported on May 7, the Packers and Alexander were negotiating a revised deal to keep him in Green Bay, though no resolution has been reached yet. On the Wednesday, May 21st edition of the Up & Adams show, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke about the relationship between Jaire Alexander and the team heading into the 2025 season. Green Bay Packers HC Matt LaFleur answers questions from the media during the NFL Annual League Meeting© Jim Rassol-Imagn Images "JA (Jaire Alexander) is a great player," LaFleur said. "Unfortunately, he's been kinda snake bit the last couple of years. He's missed a lot of time. So it's hard to play up to your potential when you're not on the grass." Alexander has missed 34 of Green Bay's past 68 games. He will turn 29 in February, and his ability to stay healthy moving forward is uncertain. Still, the best-case scenario for the team and the player is for him to return, and Packers franchise quarterback Jordan Love is vouching for that. Advertisement "I need to reach out to Ja, see what the deal is. Ja, he has his own world going on. I'm going to let him handle his own business and see what's going on," Love said during an interview with Kay Adams. "But that's my guy right there," Love said on the Up and Adams Show. "He's definitely a player we need back. Just the play style he plays with, who he is on the field. I mean, that's a guy we need to have around. So, we'll see what happens." Both sides should hopefully reach an agreement on Alexander's future soon. If he comes back, Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley will have a blast working with him alongside Nate Hobbs, Xavier McKinney, and Evan Williams in the secondary — a group that could end up being one of the best in the league. Ex-Jets GM rails against Aaron Rodgers' Steelers waiting game: ‘We want volunteers, not hostages'

While Aaron Rodgers might be indecisive about where to play next, one former NFL general manager has drawn the line. On Friday's 'First Take' on ESPN, former Jets and Dolphins general manager Mike Tannenbaum gave his take on whether the Steelers should look elsewhere and move on from their interest in the 2011 Super Bowl champion and four-time MVP. Advertisement Tannenbaum has taken Rodgers' coy play in free agency to signal disinterest, and the former NFL exec said 'it's over' for the former Jets quarterback. Mike Tannenbaum spoke about Aaron Rodgers on 'First Take.' 'He's giving us the answers to the test…Do you want your battlefield commander to be wallowing, looking at the Pacific Ocean, saying 'I'm not sure if I want to play'?' Tannenbaum said. 'Coach [Bill] Parcells used to say, 'When a player is talking about being retired, they are. And if you want to be a winning frontline quarterback withstanding the rigors of a 17-game regular season, you want someone that's in Pittsburgh right now in the offseason program, getting to know DK Metcalf, George Pickens, Pat Freiermuth. I am all in on the draft. I applaud them getting DK Metcalf. This is a team that's competing against the Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals. We have to be point scorers. Advertisement 'Aaron Rodgers is an all-time great. It's over, guys… Ironically, what Mike Tomlin would say, 'We want volunteers not hostages.' This is a guy that's disinterested in being an NFL quarterback, which is fine. He's earned that right. He's made hundreds of millions of dollars. It's over. We are drafting our next quarterback.' He also noted that he is dealing with challenges in his personal life that have put his NFL free agency decision on hold.

2025 NFL owners meetings: 10 takeaways from New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn presser

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn made an appearance at the 2025 NFL owners meetings in Florida. While there, Glenn did much more than just pose for the league's annual head coaches photo... he had his influence on those talks and chatted with the media on all-things Jets. Advertisement With that, here are 10 takeaways from Glenn's interview during the 2025 NFL owners meetings: Mar 31, 2025; Palm Beach, FL, USA; New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn attends the NFL Annual League Meeting at The Breakers. Mandatory Credit: Jim Rassol-Imagn Images More than a defensive coach... Glenn comes to New York after spending four years as the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions... and the Jets will remember him as a cornerback on their own roster back in the day. Despite that, Glenn said the defense will not be his only focus. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand will be hearing from the head coach regarding the offense, too: Competition (even kind of at quarterback) "There's going to be competition," Glenn said. "That's across the board." When asked about Mougey calling quarterback Justin Fields the starting QB for the Jets in 2025, Glenn pumped the brakes a bit. He did not say it's a full out competition between Fields and Tyrod Taylor, but Glenn made sure to note there will be battles everywhere the roster. 'By design' Glenn wants to change the culture for the Jets. This one speaks for itself, as do all the buyouts the team has offered to many employees in recent weeks: Praises Lazard When general manager Darren Mougey spoke, he indicated the team is looking at working out a new contract with receiver Allen Lazard in an attempt to keep him in New York. It appears Glenn is on the same page. Advertisement Glenn praised the "magnitude" of player that Lazard is... Tush push The NFL has voted to table the discussion on the "tush push" play made popular by the Philadelphia Eagles. It could still exist in 2025... and that's fine with Glenn. All he wants to do? Stop it (on the field). Draft and develop? Despite going with Fields in free agency, Glenn sounds like he's in favor of building through the NFL draft. And that means keeping ones already picked... Naturally, that brings up the Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson topic. Fans want the corner and receiver signed to long-term extensions. Mougey said that will heat up following the 2025 draft and Glenn is on board with the idea of keeping the two young stars. Advertisement The former defensive coordinator added that he believes Gardner can be the "best in the league." And a clean slate Rumors surrounding Wilson last season indicated he was unhappy with the Jets. Much of that had to do with quarterback Aaron Rodgers (& receiver Davante Adams), reportedly, and both are gone. Regardless, Glenn doesn't really care either way. It's a clean slate in the coach's mind for Wilson. Mixed running back reviews In discussing his running back including the likes of Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, depending on who you talk to, there were mixed reviews from Glenn. Some considered it good news for Hall, specifically. Others called it interesting... Justin, specifically... As one could guess, Fields got plenty of approval from his new head coach... 2025 NFL owners meetings: 5 takeaways from Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott presser

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott made an appearance at the 2025 NFL owners meetings in Florida. While there, McDermott did much more than just pose for the league's annual head coaches photo... he had his influence on those talks and chatted with the media on all-things Bills. Advertisement With that, here are five takeaways from McDermott's interview during the 2025 NFL owners meetings: Mar 31, 2025; Palm Beach, FL, USA; Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott answers questions from the media during the NFL Annual League Meeting at The Breakers. Mandatory Credit: Jim Rassol-Imagn Images Stern on 'tush push' McDermott's stance on the "tush push" play made popular by the Philadelphia Eagles remains the same. McDermott is not in favor of it, and despite there being no evidence of there being health concerns connected to it... that's what McDermott is hanging onto. The Bills coach thinks the play needs to be eliminated from the game because of health concerns for players. For now, the NFL has decided to table the discussion on it until the next owners meetings in May. New additions on defense The Bills did a bit of re-tooling on defense this offseason. Specifically on the D-line, Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht were added. Former Bill Dane Jackson signed back to join the team's secondary. Advertisement On Jackson, McDermott said the cornerback has previously played his "best football in Buffalo." Ogunjobi and Hoecht will both miss the first six games of the season due to suspension. However, on Ogunjobi specifically, McDermott noted he will spell Ed Oliver at the three-tech position. Finally, the Bills coach said Bosa's injury concerns did not scare Buffalo away from signing him this offseason. McDermott added a change of scenery might help Bosa, too. More 'tush push' In an interesting twist, McDermott evidently personally got into it a bit with the Eagles about the "tush push." A report from ESPN said McDermott and Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman had a slightly heated exchange about the play. Another source with direct knowledge of competition committee thinking said the proposal would be "hotly contested" among the coaches, general managers and owners as they gather for league meetings this week. The league office staff presented the rules proposals during the football operations meeting Sunday afternoon, and two sources in the meeting described the back and forth as "heated" regarding the proposal to "prohibit an offensive player from pushing a teammate who was lined up directly behind the snapper and receives the snap, immediately at the snap." During the Sunday afternoon session, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, assistant general manager Jon Ferrari and two head coaches on the competition committee, Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams and Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills, gathered in a hallway outside of the ballroom to have a private and animated side conversation about the Packers' proposal. Next to Ed While Ogunjobi will spell Oliver, that means there is still need for help at the position next to those two. DaQuan Jones is the returning one-tech tackle and the Bills have not found a younger prospect to add in that area over the past few NFL drafts. Advertisement Is 2025 the year? Sounds like McDermott is hopeful to do that. 'Well, that's a point of emphasis for us, like it is probably for most teams, building a defensive line to where we need to have it,' McDermott said. 'That's a position we value greatly.' Facing Stef Dec 31, 2023; Orchard Park, New York, USA; Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (17) has a word with wide receiver Stefon Diggs (14) between plays in the third quarter game against the New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports McDermott did his best to make it seem like there is no bad blood with Stefon Diggs. The former Bill is going to return to Buffalo in 2025 for the first time since he was traded as Diggs signed with the New England Patriots this offseason. "Happy for Stef, he'll be a great addition to their team," McDermott said. Bills Mafia might feel a bit differently. Mike Tomlin on what he expects from Steelers WR Roman Wilson in Year 2

Mike Tomlin on what he expects from Steelers WR Roman Wilson in Year 2 Roman Wilson was one of the most discussed players on the Pittsburgh Steelers throughout the 2024 regular season. An explosive receiver out of Michigan, many fans—including myself—were expecting big things from Wilson during his rookie year, especially given the Steelers' proven history of drafting great receivers outside of the first round. However, Wilson saw just five snaps throughout his 2024 rookie season—in Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders—with zero targets to show for it. Why did Roman Wilson disappear in 2024? At the 2025 NFL Annual League Meeting, Steelers beat reporter Nick Farabaugh took time to question head coach Mike Tomlin on Wilson's limited usage, despite being healthy at the end of the season. Tomlin explained that health and football readiness were two completely different aspects to consider, stating that the right opportunity didn't present itself for Wilson to properly make an impact on offense. However, Tomlin quickly shifted away from the past and looked forward to the future: "We're expecting really good things for him in his second year. I think that's a reasonable expectation. I think from time-to-time guys get faced with injury and it derails their start, but by no means do we feel like it's going to define his career. Calvin Austin is an example of that. Calvin missed a significant portion of his rookie year, similar to Roman. Over the last two years he's gone on to move away from that and be a real positive contributor to our efforts. We expect similar things from Roman." It is encouraging to hear the confidence Tomlin has in Wilson's second season, but the young receiver has big shoes to fill—as he will be tasked with upholding the Steelers' newfound tradition of drafting great receivers outside of the first round, like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson, and George Pickens.
