Report: Another Saints player has already taken Derek Carr's jersey number
Report: Another Saints player has already taken Derek Carr's jersey number Derek Carr's No. 4 jersey now belongs to a Saints defensive back Derek Carr officially retired from the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, but his jersey number has already been reassigned. According to multiple reports, including the popular NFL Jersey Numbers account on social media, cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry will now wear the No. 4. This is the number worn by Carr for the Saints the previous two seasons. The change has already been reflected on the team's official website roster. McKinstry was selected by the Saints in Round 2 of the 2024 NFL draft out of Alabama. He wore No. 1 throughout all three of his years with the Crimson Tide, but was initially assigned No. 34 after being drafted by the Saints. McKinstry wore that number throughout training camp and preseason. Just prior to the start of the 2024 regular season, he'd switch to jersey No. 14 and wore that through his rookie year. As a rookie, McKinstry appeared in 15 games for the Saints, starting nine contests. He played in 65% of the defensive snaps (680) and added 33 more snaps on special teams. McKinstry did not record an interception, but broke up 6 passes and gave up only 54.8% completion percentage when targeted in coverage. He had a total of 42 tackles, including 32 solo stops and two for negative yardage. Kool-Aid McKinstry will become the first defensive player to wear No. 4 in New Orleans franchise history. Ten other players have worn that number for the Saints during a regular season game. All of them have been a quarterback, punter, or placekicker.

Report: Fan-favorite Saints quarterback changing his jersey number in 2025
Report: Fan-favorite Saints quarterback changing his jersey number in 2025 New Orleans Saints QB Spencer Rattler (@SpencerRattler) is wearing number 2. Last assigned to Kellen Mond. #Saints — NFL Jersey Numbers (@nfl_jersey_num) March 22, 2025 It looks like Spencer Rattler is going to have a different jersey number in his second year with the New Orleans Saints. Last summer, Rattler indicated that he wouldn't be keeping No. 18 after choosing it as a rookie -- and now it appears he's kept good on his word. The unofficial "NFL Jersey Numbers" account on Twitter/X announced that Rattler is switching to the No. 2 jersey for 2025, which Rattler shared with a retweet to his official account. This move has not yet been reflected on the team's official website roster. Rattler wore No. 7 at both South Carolina and Oklahoma in college, but he did use No. 2 at Pinnacle High School in Arizona, and at last year's Senior Bowl, so it's not really a new look for him. What's curious is that No. 2 went unused through all of the 2024 season after backup QB Kellen Mond used it during spring practices. There was speculation that Chris Olave or Alontae Taylor could have taken it, having both worn it in college, but it seems they're both sticking with their established jersey numbers. But maybe wait until the change is official to order your own Rattler jersey. Numbers change hands often in the offseason and it shouldn't shock anyone if the No. 2 jersey changes hands again between now and the season starting in September.
