On this day in 2015: wrestling to be filmed at Victoria Hall
On this day in 2015, the Telegraph and Argus reported that Keighley was set to be one of the locations for what was billed (by this paper) as "the first regular televised wrestling programme in 25 years."
New Generation Wrestling (NGW) was set to film its latest Anarchy tournament at Victoria Hall the coming Saturday (May 23, 2015), for broadcast on Challenge TV.
Having previously staged bouts in Keighley, NGW signed a deal with the British Wrestling Council to make the show.
NGW spokesman Rich Hall said wrestling attracted seven million viewers every Saturday afternoon on ITV in the 1980s, with fighters like Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks.
He said at the original time of reporting in 2015: "Today's British performers are every bit as athletic and exciting as their American cousins.
"Some of the best talent in the country will be at Victoria Hall, and they are expecting to transform the British viewing public's impression of the wrestling industry in the UK with a spectacular evening of family-friendly action."
