'He Just Loves The Pressure': Evander Kane Showed The Oilers Exactly What To Do Against Vegas
Edmonton Oilers left winger Evander Kane should give a tutorial on irritating the Vegas Golden Knights. Facing a team based in a city that's all about extravagance and swagger, Vegas certainly met its match in the Oilers' Kane on and off the ice. 'Evander, I saw you rolled up in Vegas in a Rolls-Royce – you scored a goal,' longtime NHL veteran Pat Maroon told Kane on NHL on TNT after Game 4 against Vegas Monday night. 'And I saw you roll up in a Rolls-Royce tonight. Is that something you thought about going into Game 4? You superstitious?' Kane responded: 'I rolled up in a Ferrari for Game 3, and that didn't work, so I said I wanted to go back to the Rolls.' Kane's impact came in multiple ways in Edmonton's 3-0 win over the Golden Knights to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. Not only did he throw hits all night long, but he drove the net and crashed into Adin Hill after Adam Henrique's second goal of the game, which sparked a mini-melee. But Kane wasn't done there. Kane beat Hill with a wrist shot in the second period that sealed the victory, bringing Kane up to five points in eight playoff games since his return to the lineup. Vegas only held him off the scoresheet in Game 3. 'He loves the big pressure games – when there's a lot on the line, he just loves the pressure and level of play, and just the amount of physical play and scoring a big goal for us, crashing the net, winning puck battles, he's contributing a lot to our team,' Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said post-game. Kane's been an important part of the Oilers' offense from players not named Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl. Kane's 27 individual scoring chances in all situations are the fourth-most on the team, according to Not bad from a player who missed the entire regular season due to injury. Avry Lewis-McDougall goes in deeper on Evander Kane's impact in Game 4's win and his 'muscle car' play this post-season for the Oilers in his latest video column. New York Islanders win draft lottery, will select first; Utah also moves up
New York Islanders win draft lottery, will select first; Utah also moves up Show Caption Hide Caption 'It's been a fun ride': Paul Bissonnette on being a studio analyst for NHL on TNT Paul Bissonnette shares what it's like behind the scenes at NHL on TNT. Sports Seriously The NHL draft lottery had a new look and a vastly different result. The 23rd-place New York Islanders earned the right to pick first overall in the June 27-28 draft by winning the first live draft lottery in league history on Monday. The 19th-place Utah Hockey Club won the other drawing and moved up the maximum allowed 10 spots to fourth place. The Islanders, currently between general managers, had 3.5% odds of winning the No. 1 overall pick. They will select first for the first time since drafting John Tavares in 2009. The top-ranked North American prospect is Matthew Schaefer, though NHL Central Scouting said it's close. The Erie (Pennsylvania) Otters defenseman missed the rest of the season since breaking his collarbone during the winter while playing for Team Canada at the world junior hockey championship. He had 22 points in 17 games. Last year, the last-place San Jose Sharks and the 31st-place Chicago Blackhawks held onto their current spots and picked first and second, respectively. They will pick second and third this year. Previously, the draw was conducted off camera, and deputy commissioner Bill Daly would turn over cards with team logos on them until the winner was revealed. But everyone got to watch the draw of the lottery balls live, and commissioner Gary Bettman was in the room, too. NHL draft order after the lottery

Los Angeles Kings, GM Rob Blake part ways after collapse vs. Oilers
Los Angeles Kings, GM Rob Blake part ways after collapse vs. Oilers Show Caption Hide Caption 'It's been a fun ride': Paul Bissonnette on being a studio analyst for NHL on TNT Paul Bissonnette shares what it's like behind the scenes at NHL on TNT. Sports Seriously The Los Angeles Kings' inability to get past the Edmonton Oilers is leading to a change in management. The Kings announced Monday that the team and general manager Rob Blake mutually agreed to part ways. "On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Rob for his dedication to the LA Kings and the passion he brought to his role," team president Luc Robitaille said in a statement. "Reaching this understanding wasn't easy and I appreciate Rob's partnership in always working toward what is best for the Kings. Rob deserves a great deal of credit and respect for elevating us to where we are today. He has been an important part of the Kings and will always be appreciated for what he has meant to this franchise." The Oilers have knocked out the Kings four years in a row in the first round. This year seemed the best chance to end that futility because the Kings tied franchise records with 48 wins and 105 points, and Darcy Kuemper was a Vezina Trophy finalist. The Kings had home advantage this year and won Games 1 and 2 before things imploded. In Game 3, coach Jim Hiller's challenge of the Oilers' tying goal was rejected and Los Angeles received a delay of game penalty. The Oilers scored 10 seconds into the power play for the go-ahead goal and eventual win. The Kings then blew a 3-1 lead in the third period of Game 4 for an overtime loss. Edmonton won Games 5 and 6 to advance. Los Angeles hasn't announced a decision on the future of Hiller. He was in his first full season as head coach after being named interim coach last season following the firing of Todd McLellan. Blake, a Hall of Famer and former Kings star, had been general manager since 2017. The team went 309-238-71 and made the playoffs five times in eight seasons but never made it out of the first round. His 2023 trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois didn't pan out, though the forward was later moved for Kuemper. Robitaille said the search for a new general manager will begin immediately. The Islanders are also looking for a GM after not renewing Lou Lamoriello's contract.

Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk Calls Out Brad Marchand's Top Skill
The Florida Panthers are preparing to face the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After dispatching the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games, Florida enters the series against Toronto with momentum and with a familiar Maple Leafs foe in their lineup. Advertisement Among the storylines heading into the matchup is Brad Marchand's presence on Florida's roster following his trade-deadline acquisition. Marchand spent nearly 16 full seasons with the Boston Bruins, faced the Leafs multiple times in the regular season and the playoffs, and is known for his gritty style of play and leadership. According to teammate Matthew Tkachuk, who appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday, that outside perception is spot-on. 'He's probably just got the experience against some of these, some of these guys, and knows when [to] get them off their game,' Tkachuk said. 'Like, he's smart with that stuff. Advertisement 'He's got some pretty good chirps.' Tkachuk emphasized how rare it is to find players who can irritate opponents verbally and still produce, making them more complete than casual enforcers limited to bringing physicality to the game. 'The guy that makes you the most mad, and the guy that's in your face—you know, might chirp you a little bit, but can also go on the ice and back it up and put the puck in the net and produce and ultimately win games,' Tkachuk said. 'We're very lucky to have a guy like that.' Florida Panthers center Brad Marchand (63) works out during warmups against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Marchand, who registered four assists in the first round, spoke about Tkachuk earlier in the series during an "NHL on TNT" interview in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Lightning. Advertisement 'He's a terrible guy,' Marchand said, joking. 'No, he's great. Keeps the room really light, but he's ultracompetitive. 'You see the mindset he gets into when it becomes game time.' Florida will meet Toronto in the postseason for the second time in three years. The Panthers won their 2023 second-round series in five games. This year's Game 1 is scheduled for Monday, May 5, at 8 p.m. ET in Toronto. Rick Tocchet 'choosing' to leave Vancouver Canucks. What's next for coach and team?
Rick Tocchet 'choosing' to leave Vancouver Canucks. What's next for coach and team? Show Caption Hide Caption 'It's been a fun ride': Paul Bissonnette on being a studio analyst for NHL on TNT Paul Bissonnette shares what it's like behind the scenes at NHL on TNT. Sports Seriously Rick Tocchet is leaving the Vancouver Canucks after two-plus seasons, and his name will feature prominently among the NHL's coaching openings. The Canucks didn't pick up the team option on Tocchet's contract but instead offered him a new one. "We've gone a long way from where coaches have been compensated with the Canucks for years − forever actually − and we're hoping that he takes that contract," team president Jim Rutherford said previously. Tocchet did not, he and the team announced Tuesday, and is free to pursue other opportunities. 'I'm choosing to move on from the Vancouver Canucks,' Tocchet said in a statement released by the team. 'Family is a priority, and with my contract lapsing, this becomes the opportune time. While I don't know where I'm headed, or exactly how this will play out for me over the near term, I feel like this is the right time for me to explore other opportunities in and around hockey." Rutherford called it "disappointing news," in the team's statement, but added "we respect Rick's decision to move to a new chapter in his hockey career." "We did everything in our power to keep him, but at the end of the day Rick felt he needed a change," Rutherford said. "He is a good friend, a good coach, and we can't thank him enough for all he did for our organization. Toc is a stand-up guy, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.' The Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Seattle Kraken and Anaheim Ducks have fired their coaches this offseason and the Boston Bruins have begun a coaching search. The Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks finished the season with interim coaches. As a player, Tocchet spent parts of 11 seasons with the Flyers and won a championship with Pittsburgh — and two more as an assistant coach. He also played for the Bruins. Tocchet had been coach of the year in 2023-24 after leading the Canucks to the Pacific Division title in his first full season. This season, the Canucks missed the playoffs, hurt by a dispute between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson that led to Miller's trade to the Rangers. The Canucks were also hurt by an injury that cost defenseman Quinn Hughes 14 games and kept the 2023-24 Norris Trophy winner out of the 4 Nations Face-Off. Tocchet, who replaced Bruce Boudreau midway through the 2022-23 season, went 108-65-27 with the Canucks. He also coached the Tampa Bay Lightning and Arizona Coyotes and has 286 career wins.
