DNV, headquartered in Norway, is an independent, global certification company, and is a major accrediting body for United States hospitals, and has permission from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to hold hospital accreditation surveys to make sure hospitals follow federal regulations.

WVU PCH's DNV accreditation shows that it meets or exceeds CMS patient safety standards, and instead of doing hospital surveys every three years, the DNV's NIAHO (Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accreditation program does annual hospital surveys while also encouraging hospitals to share information with other departments and find ways to improve safety protocols and clinical workflows.
The press release also stated that the DNV accreditation program is the only one to integrate the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, which is a quality management system used worldwide by performance-driven organizations.
