NLCIL unveils new mascot during Raising Day fete

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) unveiled a new mascot and reaffirmed the organisation's commitment to achieve a three-fold increase of over 100 Million Tonnes (MT) of lignite by 2030 during the 69th Raising Day celebrations held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. A press note said 'Neyon', a lion that symbolises power and progress, will henceforth be the brand ambassador for the company. NLCIL CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli hoisted the NLCIL flag in the presence of former CMDs, senior officials, representatives of trade unions and associations, and employees. Later, the organisation's flag was hoisted across units by the respective leads. The CMD also launched an automatic, smart sliding glass door with the technology to identify employees and visitors with the help of sensors, installed at the entrance to the corporate office. Addressing staff, Mr. Motupalli said the outstanding financial results of 2024-25 and the all-time high profits of the company will motivate 'Team NLCIL' to work with more commitment. He said the NLCIL had fixed targets – achieving more than 100 Million Tonnes (MT) of lignite from the present 44 Million Tonnes in Mining, a three-fold increase in its total power generation capacity and increasing Renewable Energy output sevenfold by 2030. 'This requires concerted effort from a team of skilled workforce that can work with high competency levels through continuous learning and updation of expertise,' he said. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring the commissioning of Units II and III of Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant (TPP), despatch of coal from the Pachwara South Coal Block to Ghatampur TPP and progress of all other upcoming thermal projects on time. The CMD paid tributes to Jambulinga Mudaliar, the philanthropist whose donated land set the stage for establishing the company, and employees and stakeholders of yesteryears and their families who were responsible for the evolution and growth of NLCIL. He was joined by functional directors, executives and others in felicitating 10 elderly retired employees of NLCIL and their spouses. Awards were distributed under various categories like productivity excellence, efficiency, overall performance and safety for industrial and service units in addition to the 'Elite' and 'Excel' group/individual awards. Samir Swarup, Director (HR), NLCIL, also spoke. A book titled 'The Guiding Light – NLCIL Ethics Book,' designed to guide, inspire and empower employees to make decisions grounded with ethics and integrity, was released on the occasion. NLCIL's functional directors, CVO, senior officials, executives, employees, representatives of recognised trade unions, welfare associations, NLC SC/ST welfare federations, WIPS, school teachers, students and the general public attended the event. A cultural event featured a Bharatanatyam recital by artiste and Padma Bhushan awardee Shobana.
