Minister inaugurates fishnet mending and auction halls funded by NTPL's CSR initiative
Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowermen P. Geetha Jeevan inaugurated the newly constructed fishnet mending hall and auction hall at Inigo Nagar in Thoothukudi on Saturday. These infrastructure developments were implemented under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL) at a total cost of ₹56.91 lakh. The CSR project also included the installation of 20 solar powered LED street lights to improve the lighting in the area and enhance safety during night-time activities. The fishnet mending hall was built at a cost of ₹16.78 lakh, while the auction hall was constructed at a cost of ₹16.77 lakh. Additionally, ₹23.36 lakh was allocated for setting up 20 solar LED lights, each with a capacity of 60 watts, strategically installed to benefit the fishing hamlet. In a statement, the NTPL management expressed its happiness to contribute to the welfare of the fishing community. 'The company is delighted to hand over the infrastructure development works worth ₹56.91 lakh, undertaken as part of its environmental and rural development activities. These projects are expected to significantly benefit the fishermen residing in and around Inigo Nagar,' the statement added. K. Anandaramanujam, Chief Executive Officer, NTPL and other officials from NTPL and Fisheries Department were present.

NTPL workers call off stir after wage hike of Rs 90 per day in Thoothukudi
THOOTHUKUDI: The NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NPTL) workers in Thoothukudi, who were on an indefinite strike demanding wage revision, called off their strike after 29 days after reaching an agreement with the authorities during negotiation talks. The NTPL management has agreed to provide an allowance of Rs 90 per day to all contract workers. A case regarding the implementation of the order of Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (DCLC) in June 2021 mandating pay on a par with the workers of NLC thermal power plant, is pending in the Madras High court. As many as 1,372 employees of the power plant began their agitation on April 17, demanding the management to hike the daily wage of the unskilled, skilled, semi-skilled, and high-skilled workers as per the mandate in the DCLC order. During negotiation talks held on Thursday, the workers association and the NTPL administration agreed on Rs 90 per day allowance to all workers and a death relief fund of Rs 30 lakh in case of accidental death and Rs 10 lakh relief in case of other deaths, followed in NLC thermal power plant for all workers, a senior official told TNIE. Central Organisation of Tamil Nadu Electricity Employees (COTEE) state vice president S Apadurai said that they called off the protest, and since the HC has stayed its order on implementing the DCLC mandate on equal salary for workers, they resumed work immediately on Friday. "We are focused on lighting the boiler now. Power can be generated only if the boiler continuously operates for 24 hours. Power generation may begin only by Sunday," the senior official said.

NTPL staff intensify stir, commence hunger strike near Thoothukudi plant
THOOTHUKUDI: NTPL contract workers who are on an indefinite strike, began a hunger strike on Tuesday, demanding wage hike as per the recommendations of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (DCLC) and the Madras High Court Order. With no power generated in both the units (500 MW each) due to the strike, NTPL has so far suffered loss of Rs 100 crore, sources said. Condemning the NTPL administration, over 1,300 contract workers began a strike on April 17. Since the NTPL did not agree to their demand despite holding several rounds of talks, the workers intensified the agitation on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters, Central Organisation of Tamil Nadu Electricity Employees (COTEE) State Vice President S Apadurai said 100 contractor workers will observe a hunger strike every day. Apadurai urged the NTPL administration to call the workers for talks with the protesters and resolve the issue.
