Chef Duff Goldman reveals ‘complex relationship' with Anne Burrell after her death at 55
Chef Duff Goldman is honoring the late Anne Burrell. The pastry chef, 50, penned a touching tribute to the cook after she was found dead at her home on Tuesday at age 55. 'I've written and re-written this post so many times in the past 24 hours and I just don't know what to say. Anne and I became friends in probably 2006,' Goldman wrote via Instagram on Thursday. 'She was going through some stuff and I had heard that she was feeling it so on a trip to NYC from Baltimore I had made her a cake that said 'Don't let the bastards win.' 'We had a complex relationship and I remember the last conversation we had before our paths drifted was a pretty feisty debate about the merits of catfish. I believe the words 'trash fish,' 'tastes like mud,' and 'cake boy' were used, haha,' Goldman continued. 'Anne and I always had a spirited and somewhat acerbic back and forth. I really never knew why our paths drifted but I always hoped that wherever she was, Anne was doing well and was finding some happiness.' 8 Chef Anne Burrell. Although Goldman didn't disclose what he and Burrell talked about, he did write that 'that conversation left my heart lifted and full of light, for it truly seemed to me that Anne really had found a measure of happiness and love. Life is tough, and we have to be tough to get through it.' Goldman added, 'Anne was as tough as they come, but when you got past the armor there was a depth of compassion and kindness that was absolutely beautiful. Getty Images for NYCWFF Burrell tied the knot with Stuart Claxton in 2021 and stepped away from hosting 'Worst Cooks in America' in 2024 after 14 seasons on air. The TV star continued to share glimpses into her personal life on social media over the years and also started doing improv in New York City. Goldman concluded his heartfelt post, 'Anne, wherever you are I hope they have slow moving rivers because when I get there, we'll get a couple of rods, a pint of chicken livers, and a sixer and I'll teach you how to catch and cook the best catfish you ever had. The reality star, 54, noted, 'Anne was bigger than life, whether she was running a kitchen or filming a show, you knew she was in charge.' Flay, whose cat is Nacho, included a photo of Burrell holding two Calico Maine Coon cats. On Tuesday, Burrell was found unresponsive in the shower by Claxton at their home in Brooklyn, New York. Burrell's family confirmed the news in a statement to People on Tuesday. 'Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,' they shared. 'Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. 911 call reveals celeb chef Anne Burrell's final moments

Before the celebrity chef was found dead at her home in Brooklyn New York on Tuesday, local time, paramedics were responding to a 911 call they received about a reported cardiac arrest. A representative for the New York City Fire Department told Page Six on Wednesday that the 911 caller claimed Burrell suffered a 'cardiac arrest' and was 'DOA [dead on arrival].' The police department also shared that Burrell was found 'unconscious and unresponsive.' Police told People that law enforcement from the 76th Precinct responded to 'an unconscious and unresponsive 55-year-old female' at around 7.50am. According to the officers, EMS 'responded and pronounced her deceased on scene.' Burrell's official cause of death has yet to be revealed. She was 55. After news of her death broke, a representative from the channel shared with The Post: 'Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne's family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.' Just one day before her tragic passing, the cookbook author performed an improv show at The Second City New York in Brooklyn. A source revealed to People, 'Everyone said she was so great last night and so happy.' Meanwhile, a second insider, who was at the comedy club with Burrell, claimed she 'was in great spirits last night during and after the improv show.' They added, 'Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast.' The source noted Burrell seemed fine when the show ended and that everyone is 'shocked and confused' over her death. Along with performing at the club, the kitchen guru was out and about, sharing what would be her last social media post on June 12. Burrell was also an accomplished author. Rosenthal, 84, who is devoted to only wearing the colour green, replied to Burrell's Instagram, gushing over their interaction. 'Hi Anne, it was so much fun meeting you, see you again soon in the neighbourhood, the only thing I make is coffee and fig preserves from my fig tree, love and hugs,' the Green Lady of Brooklyn wrote alongside green heart emojis. 'I would like to invite you to my garden and pick figs when they are ready, usually beginning to ripen beginning September, and come and visit the garden on a sunny day anyway,' she added. Following then news of Burrell's passing, Rosenthal took to the late star's page, writing: 'Hi Anne, you are such a lovely person just to meet and not knowing you, I just love you and so sorry but come to my garden and visit with all your beauty and love and I will be waiting for you.' Burrell got married in 2021, after conceding that she didn't think it would be on the cards for her. ''This is really going to be real and this is going to turn into something.'' 'Once you get to be a woman of 50 years old, you don't really think that marriage is going to be on the plate for you,' she added. 'I was always really focused on my career and marriage was never a huge thing in my life that I was looking for. Then when I met Stuart, my opinion about all that changed.'
