Box Office: Can Housefull 5 be the next big hit movie for Bollywood after Raid 2?
Bollywood box office has been in a pretty good shape since April 2025. The industry has had two decent theatrical performers in the form of Jaat and Kesari 2 and a big hit in the form of Raid 2. Jaat netted Rs 85 crore while Kesari 2 is about to end its run in the vicinity of Rs 90.50 crore. Raid 2 is sure to collect over Rs 160 crore in its full run. The new release Bhool Chuk Maaf is running in theatres and it is doing better than what most people expected. The verdict shall be known in a few days but there is no denying that it has exceeded industry expectations. Now, all eyes are on Housefull 5. In the post-pandemic setting where sequels are overperforming at the box office, it is expected that Housefull 5 will also create a big box office splash. The trailer of Housefull 5 looks grand and on top of that, it has a lot of what the audiences enjoyed watching in the first 4 films of the franchise. If the movie clicks with the lovers of the franchise, it is sure to emerge as the 2nd highest grosser of the year so far, only behind Chhaava. Every film of the Housefull franchise has been a hit or a superhit at the box office. There have been instances when the reviews were not entirely positive but the franchise factor, along with the ensemble cast helped the film sail through. The loyal audiences of the franchise need to turn up for Housefull 5 so that more movies of the franchise can be made. Housefull movies are difficult to execute because they have a lot of actors to take care of. And there is no denying that these films are really very expensive too and so the theatrical recoveries have to be solid, along with the already strong non-theatrical recoveries courtesy the brand of the franchise and obviously the reputation of Nadiadwala and Grandsons. Housefull 5's X-factor is that it is pitched as a murder-comedy on a cruise. In the trailer launch, producer Sajid Nadiadwala confirmed that there are two different climaxes with two different killers and that has added to the intrigue for the film. But let's be honest. No one really cares about the killer and everyone is in it for the comedy. It has been a while since a proper slapstick comedy was made at this scale for Bollywood. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala revealed that Housefull 5 will have two different endings, Jackie Shroff calls Akshay Kumar, ‘the biggest joker'
The much-anticipated trailer for Housefull 5 has finally dropped, and with it came a quirky and unprecedented revelation by producer Sajid Nadiadwala at the launch event. As the fifth installment of Bollywood's most successful comedy franchise gears up for a grand release on June 6, 2025, Nadiadwala shared that the film will feature not one but two different endings. 'In my mind, I've been playing with this idea for 30 years,' Nadiadwala revealed. 'If I ever made a thriller, what would be the X-factor? How would people walk out of the theatre if the identity of the villain was kept secret?' he said. He went on to explain the unique twist: 'I've written a story where every theatre will have a different killer. So if you watch it at Gaiety, it'll have one killer. If you watch it at Galaxy, there'll be another. In PVR screen number 4, you'll see a different killer, and in PVR screen number 5, yet another one. It's like every time you watch the film, you'll get a different ending.' Expanding on the idea, Nadiadwala added, 'The film basically has two endings, something that hasn't even happened anywhere else in the world.' Also present at the trailer launch was actress Nargis Fakhri, making her comeback to films with Housefull 5. Overwhelmed with emotion, she shared the serendipitous way she landed the role: 'There's so much excitement. It's also kinda funny how it actually happened. In fact, it happened here at PVR Juhu, at the elevator, where I met Sajid sir. I told him, 'Hey, I miss you, we should work together again.' And a few days later, he called and said, 'Housefull 5.' I said, 'Woah, that's amazing.' I feel like it's a great comeback. I wasn't here for a while, but now I'm finally back.' Reflecting on the shoot, she added, 'It was really incredible on the sets of Housefull 5, where everyone got along. It was such a supportive and fun set. I'm so happy that Sajid called me, and I'm here now.' Reflecting on his journey, the actor said: 'It feels like a second coming, in my case, you could argue it's a third. But to be met with so much respect, love, and appreciation from colleagues, it's something I'm deeply grateful for.' He added, 'Coming back after a 12-year break isn't something you can plan. But I'm just prepared for it. I missed being on set, missed telling stories, and missed the connection with the audience. And now to have a fourth release in just one year, and that too with Housefull 5, such a successful and iconic comedy franchise in Hindi film history, it just feels like a celebration. I'm extremely grateful to everyone who believed in me and gave me this opportunity.' Another familiar face returning to the franchise is Jackie Shroff, who was also part of the third installment. When asked who the biggest prankster on set was, Shroff didn't hesitate: 'Itne bade bade joker hai bhai… magar sabse bada joker hai jisne abhi bola safed suit mein (Akshay Kumar) uske samne kaun bol sakta hai kuch. Ek number ka badmaash hai… khade khade kab shirt nikal deta hai pata hi nahi chalta hai.' He's a real mischief-maker… before you know it, he'll just whip off his shirt!) Housefull 5 is poised to make history as India's first comedy franchise to reach a fifth installment. This time, the makers have added a murder mystery twist to the franchise's signature slapstick humour, adding a new layer to the chaos and comedy. The film boasts a massive ensemble cast of 19 actors, including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Jackie Shroff, Shreyas Talpade, Chunky Pandey, Nikitin Dheer, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Nargis Fakhri, and Johnny Lever, among others.
