Ghaziabad hotelier murder: Killers at large, cops widen search
Three dedicated police teams are working on the case, acting on inputs provided by Ritesh Bindal, one of the named accused arrested on June 2. Multiple raids are underway in Ghaziabad and Haridwar in Uttarakhand as suspects remain untraceable, police officials said on Tuesday. Ghaziabad, Jun 3 (PTI) Ghaziabad Police, which is yet to apprehend the prime suspect for the murder of a hotelier in the city's Rajnagar Extension area which took place a couple of days ago, has widened its search in neighbouring Uttarakhand. 'Raids are ongoing and we are confident the remaining accused will be nabbed soon,' DCP (City Zone) Dhawal Jaiswal said. Rahul Dagar, 32, was gunned down at around 9.30 pm on June 1 near 'Classic Residency' in the Rajnagar Extension area. His nephew 26-year-old Ashish is recovering from a bullet wound he sustained on his leg. The police said a monetary dispute linked to a hotel business in Haldwani seems to be the motive behind the crime. Dagar recently entered into a partnership with one Nagendra Chaudhary, his brother Manish Chaudhary, and Sonia to open a hotel in Haldwani. Tensions reportedly arose when Rahul and Sonia's husband Sachin Sharma, who also managed the hotel, confronted Nagendra and Manish over large sums of money allegedly being siphoned off into their personal accounts, according to police. The police said that the confrontation turned fatal when Nagendra and Mohit Chaudhary allegedly opened fire, hitting Rahul in the chest and Ashish in the leg. The attackers fled as bystanders began to gather. A case was registered by Nandgram Police Station under several BNS Sections including 103 (murder), 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (causing hurt), 190 and 191(2) (unlawful assembly and rioting), and 193(3) (rioting with deadly weapons). The FIR named Nagendra, Manish, Mohit, Ritesh Bindal, and one Mantri, along with two unidentified accomplices, the police said. Avinash Sirohi, who filed the complaint, told police that four to five rounds were fired during the altercation. ACP (Nandgram) Poonam Mishra, the post-mortem report confirmed that one bullet remained lodged in Rahul's stomach while another pierced through his throat, proving fatal. Hotelier shot dead outside Ghaziabad condo gate, business partner main suspect
1 2 Ghaziabad: In a mob-style hit, a 35-year-old businessman was shot dead near the gates of his housing society in Raj Nagar Extension on Sunday night. Police said on Monday they had taken one suspect into custody and were looking for six others. The victim's business partner is the prime suspect. The gunmen came in a car that halted in front of Rahul Dagar, who owns a hotel at Haldwani in Uttarakhand, and his nephew Ashish just as they had stepped outside Classic Residency around 9.30 pm. Rahul died on the spot to a bullet injury he received in the stomach. Ashish was hit on the leg but survived. Rahul's brother-in-law Avinash Sirohi, who was nearby and also assaulted by the gunmen, claimed one of the attackers was the hotelier's business partner Nagendra Chaudhary. He also identified three other attackers as Mohit Chaudhary, Ritesh Bindal and a man who goes by the name Mantri. Ritesh has since been tracked and apprehended. Avinash claimed that Rahul, Nagendra, his brother Manish and their fourth partner recently had a fallout over managing the finances of their hotel, Shiva Palace. "Rahul opened the hotel with Nagendra, Manish and Sonia Bajaj. Recently, Rahul and Sonia's husband Sachin Sharma, the hotel's manager, had a disagreement with the Chaudhary brothers when they found Nagendra had been diverting the hotel's earnings to his personal account," Avinash stated in the complaint he filed at Nandgram police station. According to the complainant, around 9.15 pm on Sunday, Nagendra called Rahul and the two had a heated argument. "Nagendra kept threatening him with consequences. So, Rahul asked him to meet him outside Classic Residency. Around 5-7 minutes later, Nagendra, Mohit, Mantri, Ritesh and two other men pulled up outside the society in a car. First, they assaulted Rahul and Ashish. They turned to me as I started shouting for help. Then, right before my eyes, Nagendra and Mohit shot at Rahul and Ashish. Rahul had immediately collapsed to the ground, but Mohit sat on his chest and tried to strangle him," Avinash said. "Ashish was writhing in pain as the bullet had hit his leg, but Ritesh and Mantri kept telling the two brothers to kill him and the men and get to the car," the complainant claimed. The two survived the attack as people started to gather outside the society, and assailants fled in their car. DCP (City) Dhawal Jaiswal told TOI that FIR had been registered against seven persons, including the Chaudhary brothers Nagendra and Manish, Mohit, Ritesh, Mantri and two unknown persons under the BNS sections 103 (murder), 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 191 (2) (rioting), 191 (3) (rioting, armed with deadly weapon). "Five teams were set up to track the accused. Ritesh was taken into police custody and is still being questioned to understand his role in the shootout," the officer said. The DCP said initial investigations revealed the two groups, or at least four to six of them, had dinner at a restaurant in Raj Nagar Extension on Sunday evening. A dispute broke out between the men after they left the restaurant. Police also claimed that a day before Rahul's murder, an FIR was filed against him and Avinash after a complaint was submitted by Ritesh, who claimed the two men had barged into his house last week with weapons and misbehaved with his family. ACP Nandgram Poonam Mishra said Ritesh owed Avinash Rs 5 lakh and Rahul another Rs 6.5 lakh. In his complaint, Ritesh claimed he had repaid the money, but on May 30, the two men barged into his house when he was not around and threatened his family. He also accused them of calling his wife and threatening to kill his son. The FIR was lodged under BNS sections 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), the ACP said.

First suspected COVID-19 case reported in Andhra's Annamayya district
TIRUAPTI: A suspected COVID-19 case was reported in Madanapalle on Saturday, marking the first such instance in Annamayya district. The individual, Nagendra (27), had recently returned from Kerala, where he had been seeking employment. Nagendra reportedly developed a cough and fever while in Kerala. His sister, a resident of Madanapalle, travelled to Ernakulam and arranged for medical tests at a local hospital. Although tests were conducted for multiple illnesses including COVID-19, doctors found no specific symptoms of the virus but advised home quarantine due to his persistent fever. After returning to Madanapalle, his sister consulted doctors at the Government General Hospital, requesting admission and further tests. The hospital staff recommended an RT-PCR, stating that a COVID-19 diagnosis can only be confirmed based on its results. They also assured that Nagendra would be quarantined and treated at the hospital if the test is positive. On Saturday, Nagendra informed district health officials that he was travelling to SVIMS in Tirupati to undergo the RT-PCR test and would remain in quarantine there if necessary. District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Usha Sree clarified that no case has been officially confirmed, and urged the public not to panic in response to unverified messages circulating on social media. Health officials visited Nagendra's residence and advised them on safety protocols.

Siddaramaiah faces heat from aspirants as talk of cabinet reshuffle gains steam
Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah 's reported move to re-induct former minister B Nagendra — who had stepped down over corruption allegations — into the state cabinet has stirred fresh unrest within governing Congress, with several senior legislators voicing their resentment over being sidelined. The growing dissent has prompted the party high command to step in, with KC Venugopal, AICC general secretary (organisation), and Randeep Singh Surjewala, in charge of Karnataka, arriving in Bengaluru Wednesday. Although they were officially in the city to attend the Jai Hind Sabha, an event to honour the armed forces, sources say many disgruntled loyalists used the occasion to express their frustration over the functioning of the state unit. Surjewala reportedly held a separate closed-door meeting with party MLCs amid discussions over nominations to four vacant seats to the legislative council. "It is understood that Siddaramaiah is keen to reinstate Nagendra in the cabinet," said deputy speaker Rudrappa Lamani. "The CM gave his word to me as well, when the govt was formed in 2023. I deserve a cabinet berth as I am the only MLA from the Lambani community (SC). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo But the party leadership convinced me to be the deputy chair in the assembly with the promise that I would be made minister after two years. They must keep their word. " There was widespread expectation that a cabinet reshuffle would follow the govt's second anniversary on May 20. But while Siddaramaiah remained evasive, he rekindled speculation last week when he reiterated his intention to bring Nagendra back into the fold. Nagendra's supporters argue that he has received a clean chit from the special investigation team (SIT) probing Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation irregularities and, therefore, his reinduction is justified, but he is out on bail. And while Siddaramaiah has repeatedly voiced his support for Nagendra's return, he hasn't addressed the larger question of a cabinet reshuffle. "Discussions at the high command level are on," said Saleem Ahmed, Congress chief whip in the legislative assembly. Among those lobbying for a place in the cabinet are seniors such as Siddaramaiah's economic adviser Basavaraj Rayareddi, state planning commission chairman BR Patil, and nine-time MLA and former minister RV Deshpande. The senior-most of those waiting in line, Deshpande said: "There is no scope for a cabinet expansion since all 34 berths are filled barring the vacancy due to Nagendra's resignation. The only way to accommodate those who were not given an opportunity earlier is to reshuffle the cabinet. I hope the CM will take the right call,"

BJP seeks deportation of Pakistani nationals staying illegally in Karnataka
BJP leaders have urged the State government to deport Pakistani nationals staying illegally in the State. Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Monday, BJP's Mysuru city president L. Nagendra alleged that the State government had failed to take action on deporting Pakistani nationals staying illegally in the State, despite clear directives from the Centre. Though the BJP-ruled States had taken prompt action on the Centre's directives issued in the wake of the terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir recently, the non-BJP ruled States, including the Congress government in Karnataka, had shown little interest in this regard, alleged Mr. Nagendra, who is also a former MLA. BJP MLA for Krishnaraja, T.S. Srivatsa, who was also present in the press conference, alleged that a large number of Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals were staying in Karnataka illegally and sought their deportation. The BJP leaders said they planned to meet Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy and submit a memorandum in this regard. BJP MLA and Mysuru District BJP President L.R. Mahadevaswamy and other BJP leaders were also present.
