Utility hole covers featuring Pokemon characters installed in 5 more Aichi Pref. cities
NAGOYA -- Utility hole covers featuring illustrations of Pokemon characters, or "Poke Lids," began to be installed in five municipalities in central Japan's Aichi Prefecture on June 11.
The Pokemon Company has been donating the covers free of charge to local governments across Japan that are aiming to promote tourism and revitalize communities, with a total of 404 covers sent to municipalities in 40 prefectures. Including those previously installed in Toyohashi in 2022, there will now be nine Poke Lids in total across six municipalities in Aichi Prefecture.
Each Poke Lid is uniquely designed. In Nagoya, for example, covers depict the characters Magikarp and Komala, and were installed in the Muneharu Zone of the Kinshachi Yokocho restaurant district near Nagoya Castle. Installation locations for each municipality are listed on the Poke Lids website.
A company representative stated, "We hope people will use the 'Poke Lids' as sightseeing attractions and also various people will learn about Pokemon through them."
