If the tension surrounding the country's No. 1 girls basketball recruit wasn't high enough, on Friday Aaliyah Chavez's father quickly disputed reports about his superstar daughter's upcoming college choice. Chavez is ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY 25 in '25 Girls Basketball Recruiting Rankings. Last month she was named a McDonald's All-American and earlier this week she won the Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year award. On Friday, the website On3 reported that Chavez now considers Texas and Oklahoma as her top choices. She has said she will announce her choice on March 25. Last week, Chavez's Monterey team won Texas' Class 5A Division II state title. In the playoffs, Chavez averaged 29.3 points per game. That after averaging 34.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game. She's a legit scoring machine who will make an immediate impact at the next level.
