NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers predicted to eye $27 million Dallas Mavericks star to support LeBron James and Luka Doncic and improve title odds

LeBron James and Luka Doncic (Image via Getty) The Los Angeles Lakers are exploring ways to strengthen their roster after a disappointing first-round playoff exit, and a trade for Dallas Mavericks wing Naji Marshall could be a key move. Los Angeles Lakers Need Reliable Role Players The Los Angeles Lakers struggled in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, managing just one win against the Minnesota Timberwolves despite strong performances from LeBron James and Luka Dončić. The lack of depth and reliable 3-and-D players was glaring, pushing the front office to seek upgrades. One potential target is Naji Marshall, a versatile wing who could provide much-needed defense and scoring off the bench. Why Naji Marshall Makes Sense for the Lakers Naji Marshall, who signed a 3-year, $27 million deal with the Mavericks last summer, had a solid season: - 13.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists per game - 55.1% effective field goal percentage - Peaked in March with 19.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game His ability to defend multiple positions and attack the rim makes him an ideal fit alongside LeBron and Dončić. How the Trade Could Work Naji Marshall (Image via Imagn) The Mavericks may be open to moving Marshall if they prioritize youth and draft picks. The Los Angeles Lakers could offer: Lakers Trade Package Dalton Knecht (No. 17 pick in 2024) Shake Milton (Expiring contract) Future first-round pick(s) As Dean Simon of the Sporting News noted in the original article: "The likelihood of Marshall landing with the Lakers admittedly comes down to whether or not the Mavericks' general manager Nico Harrison views his team as a true title contender." If Dallas decides to retool, this deal could benefit both sides. Marshall's Potential Impact in LA - Defensive Versatility – Can guard multiple positions, helping hide Dončić's defensive limitations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Device Made My Power Bill Drop Overnight elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Pre-Order Undo - Offensive Upside – Strong rim attacker with a reliable floater; improving as a catch-and-shoot threat. - Playoff Experience – Played meaningful minutes for Dallas, providing toughness in high-pressure situations. Key Areas Marshall Improves for the Los Angeles Lakers 1. Perimeter Defense – Lakers ranked poorly in defending guards and wings last season. 2. Bench Scoring – Marshall's ability to create his own shot adds depth. 3. Floor Spacing – If his three-point shooting improves, he becomes even more valuable. The Lakers need to make smart moves to maximize LeBron's remaining years. Trading for Naji Marshall could be a low-risk, high-reward move, giving them a two-way wing who fits well alongside their stars. Mavericks forward on what makes Luka Doncic so special

Mavericks forward on what makes Luka Doncic so special Luka Doncic has been one of the best and most unique basketball players in the world for the last several years. On Feb. 1, the Dallas Mavericks inexplicably traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers, giving the Lakers their next transcendent generational player for up to the next decade or so. In 28 regular-season games with L.A., he averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists a game. What's scary for the NBA's 29 other teams is the fact that he still has significant room for improvement, especially given his lack of elite fitness. But Naji Marshall, one of his former teammates in Dallas, said on an appearance on "The Young Man and the Three" podcast that it is something else that makes him a special player and teammate. "Luka is just the chillest guy ever bro," Marshall said. "You just feel like his best friend from day 1. He's just a great dude. Never mad, just always happy. And just a Hall of Fame flamethrower when it comes to basketball." One item of business for the Lakers this offseason, other than tweaking their roster to maximize Doncic, is getting him signed to a contract extension. He can opt out of his contract next summer, and they can officially offer him an extension worth $229 million over four years on Aug. 2.

Naji Marshall's 22 leads Mavericks to 120-101 rout of Nets in Anthony Davis' return

NEW YORK — Naji Marshall scored 22 points off the bench to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 120-101 rout of the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. P.J. Washington and Spencer Dinwiddie finished with 16 each, Brandon Williams scored 15 and Kai Jones added 13. Anthony Davis, in his first game back after missing six weeks with a groin injury, had 12 points in 27 minutes. Brooklyn dropped to 23-49 with its fourth straight loss. Nic Claxton led the Nets with 19 points. Mavericks: For a team that is in a neck-and-neck race with Phoenix for the final Western Conference play-in spot, Dallas believes that the reinsertion of Davis — among others — can provide a boost. 'We understand what's at stake here,' coach Jason Kidd said before the game. 'We got to figure out how to win.' Nets: With three weeks remaining, coach Jordi Fernandez wants his team to use the final 11 games of the season to work on in-game execution. 'We have to control (in order) to (have) one more possession,' Fernandez said before the game. 'I think winning teams take care of those possessions.' Dallas guard Spencer Dinwiddie knocked down a left corner 3, and then assisted on buckets by Marshall and Jones in a 26-second span midway through the third quarter that allowed the Mavericks to extend their lead to 75-56. Brooklyn entered the game ninth in the NBA in 3-pointers attempted per game (39.1) and 27th in percentage of 3-pointers made per game (34.5%). Against the Mavericks, the Nets made 11 of their 33 attempts from beyond the arc. The Mavericks play the Knicks on Tuesday night. Brooklyn hosts Toronto on Wednesday. ___ AP NBA:
