IT professional & son die in bridge collapse just a month after moving into new home in Pimpri Chinchwad
Pune: The Mane family's joy of shifting to a new home in Pimpri Chinchwad about a month back was cut short when the Sunday's bridge collapse in Kund Mala claimed the lives of 32-year-old Rohit Mane and his six-year-old son Vihan.
IT professional Rohit, originally from Kolhapur, called Pimpri Chinchwad home for seven years and shifted to his dream home at Nakshatram Housing Society with his wife, Shamika, and son last month. "He was very happy as he entered the new house," Amit Bhoite, a close family friend, recalled.
When the 30-year-old bridge collapsed under the weight of a huge crowd, Rohit and Vihan were trapped under the debris. After hours of rescue efforts, their bodies were finally recovered around 7pm.
Shamika, who suffered severe leg injuries, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Nikhil Kadam, Rohit's brother-in-law, said, "We rushed to the site after receiving a call in the evening. We found Shamika at Pawana Hospital, but Rohit and Vihan were missing. Our worst fears were confirmed later that night when they were declared dead."
Tragic end to fun outing for two others
Chandrakant Sathale from Azadnagar in Wanowrie and Chetan Annappa Chaware, an employee at a private firm in Mahalunge MIDC, were among the other two victims of the tragedy.

Sathale, his wife, son and daughter reached Kund Mala for an outing on two-wheelers on Sunday. While his wife, son and daughter had stepped off, Sathale was still on the bridge when it collapsed. He was later rescued from under the debris and rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. "Sathale worked in a private firm at Ramtekdi in Hadapsar. His son, Sujit, completed his studies and recently got a job. Sathale's daughter is pursuing her studies, while his wife is a housewife," his brother-in-law Sandesh Gavhane told TOI.
Sathale's friend from Azadnagar said that he was a gentleman and his passing away was a huge shock.
Chaware, originally from Belagavi in Karnataka, was also on an outing with friends at Kund Mala on Sunday. A friend recounted, "We heard a sound and the bridge gave way. My friend and I escaped with minor injuries, but Chaware didn't family members reached Pune on Monday and claimed his body."
